The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes

I am a Tar Heel fan, and we obviously stand to get Wiggins, but it would make no sense whatsoever for Wiggins to go to UK. There's only one ball. But with the way things have gone lately, and with Cal having such appeal to these recruits, nothing surprises me anymore. I'm bracing myself already for another Nerlens Noel "shock the world" commitment.

I'm with you and like others have said, as much as I hate Kentucky, it would be downright nasty what they would put on the floor next season if he commits there as well...almost worth the while just to see the buildup ESPN would conjure up!

Who is going pro off this year's team? How many seniors were on the team last year? I am trying to understand where the scollys are coming from. I know Cal will cut as many players as needed to get all of these. Is that what he is going to have to do? I am sure this has been discussed but I too lazy to look it up.

There's room for everyone, Skippy.

There's technically room for everyone...however, Ryan Harrow has transferred, Archie Goodwin is going pro...it also looks like Noel and poythress will be going pro. So as of now they have 7 incoming freshman, and 4 returning scholarship players, so room for 2 more if my math is accurate.

Plus Walkons. Hood and Polson came to UK as walkons but were given 1-year non-renewable schollys as they were available.

That's what every scholarship is, year to year. I though Hood came in on scholarship though, not a walk on like polson?

Right now assuming poythress and Noel go, you've got these guys on scholarship....

Wiltjer Jr.
Hood Sr.
Polson Sr.
Stein So.
Harrison Fr.
Harrison Fr.
Young Fr.
Lee Fr.
Randle Fr.
Willis Fr.
Johnson Fr.

You are correct, Hood has always been a scholarship guy.

That said, 11 scholarships leaves room for Hawkins and Wiggins.

That's what I thought, I get sick of having to correct UK fans about their team, geez.

Give it a few years after the Calipari era ends, or perhaps even much sooner, and you'll find youself arguing with a UK fan over which freshmen were in the class that won the 2012 title.

Over time, John Wall will work his way on to the 2012 team, lol.

Is the academic progress rate figured with a schools entire AD or is it sport by sport? I know they get a pass if they leave to go pro and still qualify academically. Maybe I am wrong but a basketball player could basically quit school at Christmas and not have to worry about getting suspended right?

Unfortunately, I can't answer your particular question, but it gave me occasion to rant a little more against the NCAA: the one year rule goes against everything that college sports stand for. These young men ought to be allowed to leave for the pros anytime they want, including directly out of high school. I can't believe this is even an issue.

Blame the NBA.

I really believe Andrew Wiggins might be that next great player. As long as he stays straight I believe he will be on the level of Lebron, without the walking.

Hood came in as a scholly player (offered by Billy Clyde), but if needed next season will play without as he will be taking graduate courses.

Doesn't really matter, he couldn't guard Humpty Dumpty.

Right, wasn't commenting on next year, but was pretty sure he came in as a scholarship player.

Poythress returning, team on paper should be better than championship team.

2013-14 Kentucky is going to be one of two things most likely:

1) One of the best teams we've ever seen in college bball, if not the best.

2) A complete cluster-you-know-what.

Insert Wiggins, and you can multiply the chances of either options 1 and 2 happening by about 10x. You would think Poythress staying doesn't bode well for Wiggins committing, but who the hell knows anymore. I knew Cal to UK was a good combination, but I was not expecting this.

I think Poythress returning basically says Wiggins is not going to UK.

I hope you're not a math professor.
