1. Turnovers. Simple as that. Anybody that says we didn't need Golden could see that we have no else. We couldn't handle Arkansas' defensive pressure. They were too good.

2. Skylar should apologize to his team for awful defense. Three critical defensive possessions late in the 2nd half when UT was trying to make a run sealed the deal for Arkansas. That horrible charge attempt was an embarrassment. Martin should be forced by Dave Hart to give a proper explanation why he has benched every player that's played for him in his tenure for bad defense at some point, but McBee gets a pass. That was embarrassing.

3. Kenny Hall played well today. He had some nice plays when it almost got out of hand and made it a game. He is incredibly frustrating, but it was nice to get a good game out of him.

4. Jordan McRae has hit a wall. Asking him to run the point and be the primary scorer has taken it out of him. His legs aren't underneath him. Hopefully he can find his shot back because McRae has to score for this team.

5. Martin's inability to get Jarnell the ball on a consistent basis has been horrible. He's a great passer, but because this team just stands around we don't see it. If you don't cut on offense, you don't play. That should be the stance.

6. UT just didn't handle Arkansas' ability to dribble into the lane. They looked lost all day. The bigs just didn't rotate well today. McRae/Moore/Richardson/McBee just couldn't keep them out of the lane and too many times went over the screen when Arkansas kept getting to the lane. Have to adjust defensively. I don't know why Martin didn't.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes. He rebounded well with 10 and had a double-double. His D was inconsistent, but wasn't all his fault because the guards didn't defend well. He was 6-7 shooting, and 6-9 from the free throw line. With Stokes, you take that all day.

8. UT's D is not aggressive enough. One steal today? That's awful. Their length should give them five automatically. I know you want to stop everything in front, but you have to be more aggressive, especially with a stalling offense.

9. A positive? UT took the ball to the hole. That was a good sign and resulted in 24 free throw attempts. I actually thought, outside the turnovers, UT did pretty decent on offense. It was inconsistent, but UT did a better job being aggressive and getting in the lane.

10. UT lost. It sucks. They (again) had chances and was embarrassing to watch in the first half. I'm disconcerted with their defense right now. This team needs Golden. We really needed this road win. But UT has a very winnable two games this week. If UT wins those two, that's 4-1 in your last five. It's a blown opportunity, but you got to keep your head up. Not all is lost.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

We need a PG. When McBee and Hall are seniors and relied on, you're roster is not great. We need to get more cuts to the basket.

Nice write up as always Zjc. Can't say it isn't better.

Silly not to try a zone against a team getting about any shot they want all day. Just not smart. You want to slow down the game but don't do the main thing a team can do to slow it down.

Bad team and poorly coached. Imo, the full court pressure caused less issues, than did our plan to break it and slow it down until there is no clock or keep forcing that stupid pass to the wing that does nothing except waste clock and beg for a double team. Aimlessly dribbling without purpose 30 feet out to "set up" the offense is getting tiresome, especially since we now in 2 years have to be one of the worst ballhandling teams in D1. Mix that with more bad spacing, and you get what we have.

#3, If he could do that every game, we would be a tougher out. Instead, we get it about every 5-6 games if that.

#4, McRae was basically a no-show two games in a row. You aren't beating many teams with Golden on the bench and McRae no showing.

#6, Our help side defense sucked all day. Knight talked about it a couple of times and we just looked poorly prepared and lost. That's on Martin.

#8, If you are going to be a methodical offensive team then you need to find other ways to get points. We rarely, if ever, get steals and transition baskets. This team would be so much better if they could do that. I miss that tremendously from the Pearl era. We used to get a lot of steals and easy baskets via transition just like Ark gets.

As I've been saying since early Dec, this is a NIT team at best. Nothing has changed my mind. They're a mentally fragile team and even moreso on the road.

Give him enough time to get all of his recruits and go from there. No leftovers from the other guy

How long do we have to keep the faith with Martin, serious question?

Feel free to quit whenever. I was dumb enough to believe in Dooley up until about the Florida and Miss State games this past season. I threw in the towel at that point. Blindly following is dumb when you know the coach sucks. I'll give Martin another year but this is the first time in over a decade that I don't even care if I miss the games. I don't care if it makes me a "bad fan". I'm tired of watching piss poor teams on piss poor streams. I have to watch most games online, the quality is crap and my favorite teams lose as much as they win. At some point, nobody should blame you for doing something else instead. Losing just pisses me off, I'd rather do something that doesn't ruin my day.

Really? So far Cuonzo has recruited the same type of player. 6-5 to 6-7 that supposedly can guard 1-4 spots and are hard nose overachievers. They can barely handle the ball and shoot with low basketball IQ's. So far, not good. Martin has said he doesn't believe in true point guards, that wing players can run the point in his system.

I thought Moore had a really bad day and hurt tn just as bad as McBee.Should have tried zone like sparta said.Arky couldnt hit anything from outside. No one can beat their man off the dribble other than Maymon.I thought Lopez had a pretty good game.He had a couple turnovers but played tough d.

Over half the team are HIS guys and they suck! It doesn't take 4 years to put in a system...that's BS! IMO 'zo is done. You can't
say losing two players makes you suck that bad...what about the rest of the team???

They look poorly prepared on both ends of the court, lack coaching adjustments, and know robot ball doesn't cut it.

Put the curtains back up in TBA. I won't go or watch on TV anymore...to painful to watch.

The other guy won with his recruits and the guy's recruits before him... just sayin.

Why must everyone compare Martin to Pearl? Pearl isn't coming back. Martin will never be Pearl. Pearl had numerous years of coaching at different levels before he came to UT. Martin had 3 years. Why everyone must continue to compare the two is beyond me.

Martin isn't coach Pearl and probably never will be. It's useless to continue to try and compare the two.

Martin has one more year to prove what he can do. After that, Hart will have a decision to make if we don't make the tourney.

I wish we had those guys because they are 100% better than anyone on this team. The best 3 point shooter in UT history, a 2 guard that can light it up as well and what this team need real bad, a pg. Watson is still in the NBA

Martin can't coach a zone. He has tried and he doesn't like it and the team looks bad playing it. He is what he is. But yes, a zone would have been good to play, especially with the long wing players Martin puts in the game.

This. Comparing what Pearl inherited and what Martin inherited, there's no question who had more to work with.

I will pass my judgement until he has recruited all his guys then if he can't win, let him go

He has next year to prove it. He'll have Stokes as a Jr, McRae as a Sr, Maymon as a 5th year Sr, Golden as a Sr, Richardson as a Jr, Moore as a Sophomore, Hubbs as a freshman and a bunch of other role players with playing time. Provided that he doesn't have key players with numerous injuries again, there is zero reason this team shouldn't make the tourney even without a legit PG. If he can't get that team with that kind of talent and experience to the tourney then he should be fired.
