Probably not fair to Cuonzo but its simple.... They're compared because Pearl was incredibly successful and made the program relevant again and Martin is his immediate successor and is not having the same kind of success nor is his style exciting/entertaining like Pearls. It's just a reflex to compare the 2

i would have never fired Pearl...take the ban and whatever else they gave us. We aren't relevant right now anyway...so who cares...Just my two cents

As they should be compared. Either win or GTFO. If Martin would have been the successor to Buzz then it wouldn't have mattered because we sucked already. But since we got the smell of what a winning basketball team looked like...now we're crazy fans lol

Watching Arkansas press and run made me long for just a few years ago. Not saying I want Bruce back, but seeing some exciting ball would be nice as this "defensive" ball isn't working

Why can't we get another coach besides Pearl.There are bigger and better coaches we can get.We have have to spend the $$$ which i doubt we will do

Pearl was the best coach UT BB has ever had and I was around to see Ray Mears coach. Our AD won't spend the $ it will take to get a coach any better than Pearl.

If not for the "leftovers" which include McRae, Hall, Golden, McBee we wouldn't hav.e a lot on this team. Edwards, Chievous and eleven Makanjoula have shown they are not SEC caliber players.

Agreed. If Martin does get the axe we will hire someone with the same basic background as Martin. But I guess, if you think about it, Pearl was the same kind of hire. He just turned out to be a beast. Maybe we can strike gold again

I understand the level of wishful thinking this shows, but we would at least have to throw everything we got at Shaka Smart. Worth a shot

With the NCAA violations looming over the program, the better players and coaches wasn't going to come.

Yeah he turned down Illinois so he may not be available to us haha but Illinois isn't just an amazing job to me. And its in the toughest conference in the country.

We are in a weak conference that he could have a chance to dominate (only Kentucky and Florida will be strong perennially). We have some of the best facilities in the country. TBA is incredible, regardless of whoevers arena youre comparing it to. Its a decent recruiting area with Memphis close and Atlanta not too far off. Pearl proved that this place could be nationally relevant. I really think we have a lot going for us.

But who knows, we may have talked to him last time and got laughed at

Many suitors have been after Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens, but those guys are content with their current situation.

It's his guys that show fight, Richardson,Moore, Reese,Stokes,ect.... It'sPearl's leftovers that suck,Mcbee,Golden,Hall ect... This fanbase sucks,the guy is halfway through his second season and people whinning and *****ing. Go Vols!!!!!

I have followed UT sports since the late sixties. This means I have witnessed a lot of sports. Now my take: Stokes only played a half season last year ( Dooleys' year zero formula). He is now showing up more often than not with big points and rebounds. He very well may look at where we aren't and go the Tyler Bray early exit route. Plus bye bye Kenny Hall. We sign mostly lower players. I see CCM not being here in a few years but always want the best. Our problem is an administrative one. They want to ponzi scheme us shmucks for ever penny and build concrete foundations but not coaching foundations. Under this BS plan we will simply fall further behind ever other SEC school. Where do we hang our hat in mens sports versus the other SEC schools.....we do not.

You can't even compare Martin to Pearl.....

You are out of your mind!

Pearl had 13 years of head coaching experience before getting the Tennessee job - Martin, a whopping 3 years of HC experience.

Pearl won AA' Div 2 championship and took an also ran program to two NCAA tourneys (one sweet 16).

Pearl had a resume full of years of winning! Martin 3 years and no AA tourney teams!

Pearl's resume established him as a winner and was a much stronger candidate for the Tennessee job than Martin and that's a fact!

and the "other guy" was such a bad coach that he took Tennessee to 6 straight AA tourney's - an accomplishment never before seen at Tennessee.

A number 1 ranking - 3 sweet sixteen appearances - 1 elite 8.

Hmmm.

With that being said,He is the reason the NCAA was going to hammer us and put the basketball program in the shape we are in today.No big time coach or player was coming.Now we are in better shape,we can get a big time coach in we come off the cash.
