The Association Football Thread

I find myself wanting to ask you the same question. The opinion of a 8 year old isn't screaming credibility to me.

I haven't seen a player anywhere near Messi's caliber in the last six years, my time of watching soccer on a consistent basis. I can't say how good Zidane or Ronaldo really were, but I find it hard to believe they were as good as Messi is now. They certainly do not compare statistics wise, and statistics do not do Messi justice. His game is so beyond statistics.

Good game by Madrid. The recipe to beat us is to score the first and then defend with organization, along with some last ditch tackles. Really the same thing that happened against Chelsea, except Madrid had more than one legitimate chance.

Pep really got it wrong with the lineup. Not sure who the hell was supposed to score besides Messi. Tello blew multiple chances and Iniesta, Thiago and Xavi just aren't goal scorers. Really need to focus on the Champions League at this point, it's that or bust for this season.

Barca had more than their fair share of good looks at the goal and couldn't capitalize. That lineup should have been able to move the ball better than it did, but madrid's back and middle just played out of their skulls.

Just look tired. And no time for rest until Tuesday. That's what sucks about having such a small squad, not to mention our injuries. Just don't have the depth to rest players. Chelsea rested basically their entire damn team from Wednesday.

T-30 minutes until the collapse. Timbers are as good as any team in the league through the first 70-75 minutes, then it all goes to crap.

PTFC!

What an ugly end to the game, and even though we couldn't put the ball in the goal, a win over your club is very welcome. You guys have undoubtedly the toughest defense in MLS.

This is f-ing ridiculous. So sick of horrible officiating. RSL goes a man down in the 30th minute or so, and is tied 1-1 in the 70th minute and gets another red. Lenhart made a run on Olave. Lenhart pulls down Olave by his shorts. Olave gets ejected (straight red). We're down 2 men, and we're going to beat the best team in the west on the road....I hope.

Backline defender Dawkins for SJ is sitting on yellow. He straight up arm tackles Saborio, earns a foul, but no second yellow. Then they strangely announced 6' of extra time. We're getting homered big time.

Well, turns out all they needed was 2' of extra time.

Guess who scored the go ahead goal? You got it. Dawkins. The guy who should already be in the locker room.

The fact that anyone would pull for another country over the USA in any situation (sports, debate, anything) is more than depressing.

It's my business. I've been pulling for them long before the USMNT was relevant internationally. It's a sport, nothing more significant than that.

Can we lay to rest the acronym USMNT?
