Looking forward to hopefully seeing this guy at Everton.

EVERTON have negotiated a deal that grants the club first refusal on Azerbaijan midfielder Araz Abdullayev.

The highly-rated 18-year-old has attracted the attention of David Moyes who has now moved to put the exclusive deal in place that will allow Abdullayev to switch from hometown club Neftchi Baku to Goodison Park any time in the next two years, subject to a work permit being awarded.

Abdullayev made history in Azerbaijan when he became the country’s youngest ever senior international aged just 16 in October 2008

He also said top five in Serie A, which is comical.

Yeah, because everyone knows Brescia and Cagliari are world class sides that compete for CL titles every year, huh. I said it was possible, not a certainty.

I got hell for saying the better MLS teams could compete with the lower half of the EPL. Just watch the Galaxy play a match, and then watch Wigan.
Just remember when Kansas City plays Man U in a few weeks that KC is one of the absolute worst teams in the MLS. Out of the 16 teams, there are probably three that KC is better than. I just don't want Man U to blow them out and then for everyone to tell me that they told me so. I admit that the EPL is a far superior league. I just want people in this country to give the MLS a chance. It's still a new league and it needs our (soccer fans') support.

You said they could be a top five side in Seria A. That is basically saying they would contend for a spot in the CL or the Europa League, which is ridiculous.

If Brescia and Cagliari, who don't even compete for Europa League titles, can knick a top five, LA could knick one, too.

EDIT: Hehe, that's what I get for looking at ESPN on an iPod Touch. Those were the standings for this upcoming year.

It's like saying the LA Galaxy could play Roma or Inter Milan close, or possibly beat them. I mean, if they are close to top five then they should atleast be challenging them. And IMO, they would get destroyed against any of the top five teams.

guess we'll find out for sure on August 7.

LA Galaxy to host Real Madrid | LA Galaxy

I know Real Madrid isn't an Italian team, btw, but they are one of the better UEFA clubs.

Let's be honest, these exhibition games are worth much in terms of gauging the two teams. The MLS team is in mid season form, while the European team is just getting their training again. They also very rarely play their first team, usually a mixture of young talent with a few starters. This year will probably be worse since teams like Real Madrid have most of their players participating in the World Cup. So I imagine an even smaller amount of first squad players will participate in these games.

so now you're going to move the goalposts. If LA wins, then it's because Real Madrid played the rookies and scrubs, if they lose, it proves your point that MLS teams are nowhere near as good as the top Euro teams.

I don't think anyone was really debating that. Some were saying that a top MLS team would be as competitive as a team in the bottom third of one of the Euro leagues.

read the previous few posts so you'll see the context of my response to volball.

Manchester City is going after Landon Donovan, reportedly for 7 million/year. I didn't catch all the details, but apparently there's 15 million more bucks being offered to MLS to allow the deal.

I realize that Donavan proved he could play in the EPL last year during his loan to Everton but, at this point in time, Man City might as well just start burning money with the ways they are trying to spend it.

How bout that Man U/Philadelphia game?? It was AT Manchester, and they had to score in the final ten minutes to win by a goal. Let me remind you that Philadelphia is an expansion team who is one of the worst in the MLS.

From everything I've read, it doesn't seem likely that Donovan will be in the EPL again anytime soon. If he does come back to the Premier League, hopefully it won't be Man City.

Not true. The game game was played at LF Field in Philly. They are on a tour of the US for several weeks that culminates with the MLS All-Star game. Also, you didn't mention that Rooney didn't play. I realize he struggled in the WC, but many great stars struggle with the national teams due to the fact that that's not their normal team. He had a great season for Man U last year. Still, not a horrible showing by Philadelphia.

Well, crap. I hate being wrong. I actually didn't even watch the whole thing. I just noticed that what I did see was not in Philly's normal MLS stadium.
How bout the NY/Tottenham match? Doesn't matter that a washed-up Frenchie scored for NY...still, he's an MLSer now.

Kansas City beat Manchester United (2-1), and New York beat Manchester City (2-1). A good day for the MLS.

Are you sure. I didn't see the end, but I saw well into the second half, and the score was 1-1 at that time. I find it hard to believe that NY had that great of a finish!

You're correct. I'm not sure why I put 2-0. I watched the game. I must have been looking at the KC/MU scoreboard.

The final was 2-1, NY.
