The Association Football Thread

So is this man city team anywhere near full strength? Trying to peg this on the upset gauge if galaxy draws with them.

I read about this like a month ago... Unless, he is just saying all this stuff again. Wouldn't surprise me.

knew it.. You were completely right. There are articles about this everywhere.

Now that I think about it, that story conflicts with what I read on the MUFC website yesterday. According to the site, there will be no more signings for United this summer. But, who knows.

Yeah, and Fergie specifically said he isn't going to sign a Scholes replacement as well.

Might just be playing games.

anyone watching Audi cup today? SC International vs Barcelona and Bayern vs AC Milan on Fox Soccer Channel.

As much as I would like Bayern to win, I don't like our chances against AC Milan and certainly not Barca. The center defense is still a bit suspect. I don't think Boateng will be the answer there, at least at a CL level.

Considering the recent success of two-term coaches. . . WOO!

However, this should be tempered until we find out who will replace him. Hopefully the move will be made soon, as the run of friendlies starting in a couple weeks will be a great time to evaluate folks.

Rumor is Sunil already has someone lined up. My bro-in-law's Dad is some sort of regional administrator of amateur soccer here in the US*. He said the executive committee had a meeting in Germany to make this decision, so Bradley's been a dead man walking for a couple weeks.

*He gets all kinds of perks. He took an FA chartered flight to Germany just for the WWC final 2 weeks ago. Everything was free. He's hooked me up a lot with some great MLS tickets. He got me into the after-party with the players at the MLS All-Star/Everton match a few years back.

And Ives is saying it won't be an MLS coach, and Grant Wahl is quoting insiders as saying "you won't be surprised" by the identity of the new coach.

Putting it all together: Klinnsman

Well, this surprises no one. Having a fresh perspective is good, but he's a little unproven as a head man. Hope he surrounds himself with good assistants.

Dang, can't wait to see how this affects us. He is going to be coaching our games in August I would assume?

I'm sure he will.

One thing to note is that he's known for a very attacking style. I think we have the horses to do that up top, but priority #1 is rebuilding the defense that allowed four straight to Mexico.

Jürgen Klinsmann officially named new coach. Who are these people that change wikipedia pages before news even officially breaks?
