Lou Pinella just annnounced that he is gonna retire after todays game, not at the end of the season as he had previously stated. His mother has fallen ill, and he plans to spend as much time with her as possible. So you know the Cubbies are gonna play the emotional card and try their best to send him out a winner...the Bravos better have their A game today.

Yeah, really encouraged by Minor. Also the nice run support!

I didn't watch the game. But what's up with Prado's error? 3 in 2 days.

Solid win today, hate it got that out of hand on Sweet Lou's last game.

Great game today and so long Lou Piniella.

I hate the Cubs and have never been a huge Piniella fan...But his press conference was truly moving. When a man that has worn a uniform for more than 40 years, realizes he will do so no more...pretty powerful stuff.

Lou is a polarizing figure. I have the utmost respect for him and the years he gave baseball.

Yeah, that news conference was powerful. Hard seeing someone leave the game behind.
Made me think of the "Ball Four" quote by Jim Bouton, author and pitcher.

"You spend a good part of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it was the other way around all the time."

The convenient thing about evaluating baseball managers is that you can pretty much just judge them by their personalities, because the manager is less important in baseball than the coach is in any other sport. The difference between a Hall of Fame level manager and some random dude from a Strat-O-Matic league is, if anything, no more than a couple of wins a year. At most. The most laughable amount of money in sports is probably Joe Torre's paycheck.

I complain about Cox's tactical ineptitude all the time, but I do have to say that he's the best at the one skill that might actually be a managerial difference maker, and that's handling the clubhouse. I'm not sure how many wins on the field that actually translates into, but surely it can't hurt.

Sayonara, Sweet Lou. You were interesting to watch, which is really about all you can ask for from a manger. Vaya con Dios.

Agree. Give me a guy with a little personality and understands his players.

Lou was just Lou. You knew where you stood with him.

I think an NBA head coach has a pretty easy job too, possibly easier than that of a baseball manager.

An NBA coach at least has to deal with Xs and Os. A baseball manager pretty much just claps in the dugout and pats his pitchers on the ass when he makes pitching changes. You or I could manage the Braves and it wouldn't be that different at all.
