His ceiling is pretty well unlimited, that's for sure. Got to get him inked to a Brian McCann-style deal ASAP.

Yep - we were talking about that tonight. Apparently they made a similar offer to Francouer when they inked McCann, but Frenchy turned it down - correct? I wonder if that was going through his head as he watched his eventual replacement's 3-run jack fly over his head in right field.

Let me also add that the hardest ball hit by Heyward tonight, by far, was the only time he got out. An absolute bullet to CF.

That line drive to center he hit was on a rope. Still rising when it was caught.

Wish I was there at the Ted tonite myself.

You going tomm?

They offered basically the same contracts to Francoeur and McCann. One of them took it; the other thought he'd do better to wait until he became a free agent. The Braves were very lucky as to which one took the deal. If it had been the other way around, they'd be screwed.

Salt and Pepper will finally be rejoined. Talk about a force on the right side of the field. Two of the youngest players in the Majors and they're both studs, from the same draft.

Wonder if the Glaus rumors have legs at all? It sure would be tempting to unload him.

I wouldn't do it. What if Lee's back flares back up and he's out of the lineup? Then you're either married to a rookie who's never hit major league pitching before or you take away a lot of Cox's flexibility with his crappy outfielders. I can't imagine that Wren could get enough for Glaus that it would be worth giving up 1B insurance for the last month of the season.

So Kimbrel and Martinez will stay in Gwinnett until the end of the AAA season. Then they will come up. But will they be eligible to play? I thought they had to be up by Sept 1st to be able to play?

I think they play like six more games in AAA. And its you have to be on the roster before Sept. 1st in order to be on the postseason roster. My guess is they can still call up or send down those who are coming in the expanded roster.

Freeman is in the lineup tonight batting 6th!!! Hanson on the mound with Heyward, Prado, B Mac, and Freeman all in the lineup. It'll be a big glimpse of the future tonight.

im all for freeman starting some games, but its the kids first game in the majors and theyre starting him already? Also when Lee was starting to get warm at the plate.

He's going to be close. He could still win it even if he doesn't quite get there, though, if he's far enough ahead of everybody that he would still win even if he took an 0 for 25 (or whatever it takes to get to 502 plate appearances). So he needs to maintain a healthy lead over Votto and Gonzalez.
