I could be totally wrong on this, but even if we pound the ball.. we got an NFL line going up against 215 lb OVC linemen. They are going to shred them. Trust me, I've watched other OVC teams shred Austin Peay for years. There is a reason the line for this game is 51. Also, there are some good players on defense. AJ, McNeil, McCullers, Randolph, Coleman, Maggitt (when healthy) B Moore. We are going to be much, much better than last year defensively. Last year was a coaching debacle and players were never in their correct spots. They were clueless.

100

Dooley + Sal = worst thing that's ever happened ever forever and ever amen

I'd take this over the 2010 team with the only big exception being WR

2010 was the only year that gave me pause in making that statement, but I'd take freshman Tyler Bray over any QB on this year's roster 1000 times out of 1000. That's why I give the 2010 team a slight leg up on this year's squad.

I know better than to pose a question like this in the FF because I know exactly how it would go, but you guys seem a little more realistic over here. Which final outcome do you guys think is MORE likely? 8-4 or 4-8?

I guess I'd go 4-8, but would put both of those proposed records as 10% at max. Think we are a 5 to 6 win fairly comfortably. Don't see much more though

MORE likely? 4-8. We're more likely to lose to all three of Vandy, Mizzou, and Auburn than we are to pick up a win against any of Bama/UF/Georgia/Cocks/Oregon.

I knew there was some decent sense in this thread. I don't think we'll end up 4-8 either, but it's a hell of a lot more likely than 8-4, which a lot of folks over in the FF seem to think we have a very good shot of attaining.

Best chance of getting to 8 wins this year is 7 regular season wins (APSU, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Auburn) and then add a bowl victory. I don't think it will happen, and think people are underestimating Auburn and that at Missouri will be tougher than people think. That being said, that is probably the only likely way to reach 8

Gus Malzahn vs the same defensive players we had last year is pretty terrifying.

Yep. Plus there is a lot of talent on this team. Unlike us their program has not been down for awhile and they have been able to pitch coming off of a national championship to top prospects. Yeah, gene chizek was an idiot and last year was a disaster, but would be surprised if that repeated. Especially when you take malzahn's offense with that all star defensive staff that he put together

I think we'll find a way to win one out of the Mizzou/Auburn/Vandy group and get to 5-7. The rest I agree with.

I'll say 6-6. I'm actually not a big believer in Malzahn.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a believer in Malzahn, per se, but the things he likes to do on offense are lethal to slow and/or out of position and/or confused defensive players. And until we see otherwise I'm going to assume that's all we've got on defense.

That said, Auburn is at home, and we should still, even now, have a considerable talent gap over Vandy and Mizzou. My opinion on Butch Jones next offseason is going to be heavily dependent on whether he can figure out a way to win two of those games and get us in a bowl.

When I read that he was out, I did actually briefly think to myself that I was glad he had already gotten a 5th star. Not because it changes what kind of player he is in any way, but because it would be nice to actually sign a 5-star player again. It's been several years since we got one. The thought that Rivals would backtrack and take stars away didn't even cross my mind.
