Tapped the new keg on Wednesday night. 65 20 oz pints of Guinness since then. Pretty good work for a bunch of old fsckers like me and the frau and our friends.

Francoeur leaning towards reds. In other news, hahahaha. Probably have more RBIs and therefore be > Joey Votto

Pretty sure the boy and I are going to have to go down Thursday on Murph bobblehead night.

I'm really glad to see Murph having a greater presence in the organization the past few years. I don't think people under about 35 can possibly get just how revered that guy was in the 80s.

Mrs Verc laughs at me because I get a little weak in the knees every time he's on TV. Holy damn I still love that guy.

Like how us young guns love Chipper

Sort of. Except that back then, you saw very little of the players' personalities, especially if you were out of market up in Knoxville like I was. Imagine if social media and the internet didn't exist, and you had no real inkling what Chipper was actually like. Murph was already like a statue even when he was 28 and in mid-career.

Having him on the broadcasts now suddenly allows all us old guys who heard the announcers talk about what a great guy he was but never saw it, to finally see it for ourselves. I mean, you young guys have practically grown up in Chipper's bedroom and deer stand. The last couple years have been the first time I've had any sense of what Dale Murphy is actually like.

Just came across this story after seeing the bat that Mickey Mantle supposedly signed saying merry Christmas **********. Somehow missed it when the story broke a couple of years ago, but Mantle definitely kept it 100.

Lol. No way that's real is it?

It's real. Mickey Mantle's own life was a toilet, so he apparently treated everybody else with zero dignity either. This private letter to the Yankees is great, obviously, but I've read enough other stuff about him that I can confidently assert that Mantle was a Grade A piece of shat.

Verc who was your favorite non Brave growing up?

Rickey came up when I was my boy's age. He was still hanging on when I was in my 30s. I still miss him. He is by far my favorite player of all time.
