The Atlanta Braves Thread

The thing with our roster, a guy like Elder is fine because you will have ups and down but things balance out. Playoff series are too short for the kind of variance he brings to the table, you need to know what you're getting out of your postseason guys.

You have to “Snit”-proof your pitching staff. You can’t leave it up to chance and have Bryce Elder starting games, then having Daysbel Hernandez, Brad Hand and Michael Tonkin on your postseason roster. Then you get a game 3 disaster like we saw.

The only reason we were able to win the WS is the top 3 dudes gave us 4-5 innings virtually every game. Then Snit could rely on the same four guys. If you don’t have that kind of rotation to do that, you end with up disasters like the last two years (although 2022 was terrible luck with Max sick, Strider coming back from an oblique and Chuck getting hit by a line drive).

My thing with last season though, the offense was just flat. I didn't mind punting game 3 and wanted to punt the end of 1 because I thought the offense would wake up. Gotta figure out why that happened.

In a span of two weeks, the Phillies went 5-1 with +24 run differential. They dominated a 104 win team that handled them in the regular season. Then in the next five games, went 1-4 with a -3 run differential against an 84 win team that didn’t make the playoffs till game 161.

Baseball is stupid.
It’s not a fluke. Postseason ball is different. They plan around us and own us and we don’t have any answers. It’s a problem.

I truly do believe the team has a psych issue when they play in Philly. You can tell with how panicked their PA’s are compared to everywhere else. When the bank gets going, they wilt. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a team construction problem however.

Glasnow just got a $110M extension despite making 60 starts the last 5 years, Fried is gonna get $200M if he stays healthy this year

I'm still waiting on that Philly World Series parade from the greatest team of all time. Surely they had a world series parade last year. Right

I’m not caught up on the conversation but are people still seriously arguing that we are better than philly?

The point is there is some fluke to the playoffs. Otherwise, one would believe the Diamondbacks are superior to the Dodgers and Phillies, which is silly.

This group (2018) has made the postseason six times and has not one an elimination game. That is not a great look.
There are only two main contributors from the 2021 WS run still in the lineup and I will let you look at their postseason efforts on your own time.

Most champions have that moment you can look back on and say if xyz didn’t happen, we wouldn’t have won..

Lot of people point to the trade deadline and the career heaters those guys went on down the stretch

But to be even more precise, if Matzek doesn’t go absolute NUCLEAR for a half hour on that beautiful fall evening, I imagine some people have some different (or no) jobs right now

Tyler Matzek, A RELIEVER, in 15.2 IP, provided 23.5% championship probability added by himself.

It’s one of the five best reliever runs (not including Mariano) of the last 35 years.
