Well everyone hoping to get Xavier again got their wish. Who knew it would be in the loser's bracket? LMAO. Sorry, you have to find humor in the colossal f up that was tonight's game.
Thank goodness I went to the hockey game instead, but got to listen to the last 10 minutes of the game. Bert basically said we got outplayed. I'd add another. We got outcoached too. I've watched part of the game and I really don't need to see much more. This coaching staff does nothing to help its team out. Whoever is in charge of coaching post defense should be fired right now. They are a colossal F up. They couldn't coach these guys out of a wet paper sack. It is completely atrocious.
Again, I've asked numerous times what this team does well and can hang its hat on? Can someone name something this team does well (besides missing free throws and allowing countless points inside)? You can't because it doesn't exist. Martin is clueless and lost as last year's Easter egg. His in game coaching is atrocious and his teams have looked like complete and total sh*t in Nov and Dec for the last 3 years. It's so pathetic it's comical. Floyd coached circles around him as I feared. Any coach worth his salt will coach circles around him usually.
Folks, there comes a time when you know something isn't going to work out. I felt it after the Xavier game, and after a day of thinking, I gave him another chance since it was on the road. Not anymore. When you are favored to win by 7 on a neutral court and pretty much get run off the court in the 2nd half and lose by 8 then it's obvious that Martin is in over his head. Make any kind of excuse that you want to, but the obvious is staring you right in the face. He's a NIT coach. We "might" make the NCAA's with him, but if we were to keep him 10 years, I'm betting he'll make the NIT way more than the NCAA's. This athletic dept makes too much damn money to keep a mediocre coach. Hart will have a decision to make at the end of the season. Martin will do what he always does. He'll pick off some teams in Jan and Feb, but he'll be scrambling to make the tourney and we'll be sweating it out yet again on Selection Sunday.
If I had one wish, I would wish I could go back in time and never allow UT to hire Mike Hamilton and I'd fire everyone in the administration that was involved in the hiring of Kiffin, Dooley, Martin and Raleigh. Only Serrano may work out. His hires in the football, basketball and baseball programs have almost killed all three programs. It takes a high level of incompetence to pull off that rare feat, but Hamilton did it. Bravo you incompetent fool.
10. A horrible, horrible performance that my eyes wish didn't see. Is there a way I can get the abomination out of my head? Any way? The goal is two wins for this tournament, but I'm a realist and there is absolutely no way it's going to happen. Xavier will run them off the floor0. I'm not usually this negative, but there is no other way to put it. You can hear the whispers become barbershop chatter for Coach Martin. !
Not ready to agree with this one. We played horifically in the first game with them also and lost by 4. Xavier blew a 15 point lead in the final 10 min last night. They are also a bad team right now, and if we shoot, I'll say, 40% or better from the field and hit somewhere between 50% and 60% from the line today, we win going away. But hey, that's still why they play the game, right? We shall see.
The one thing that I will say is that Hamilton hired Pearl. You can argue about the Kiffin hire, but no one can ever say that they expected Kiffin to leave after a year and Pearl to lie to the NCAA. Hamilton certainly could have handled the situation much better, and the Dooley hire was awful. Hamilton had his faults, but he also was the receiving end of two departures that NO ONE saw coming. Just the way it goes.
This is why after a bad loss it's best to just step away. We ran X out of the gym today, completely outplayed and out coached them.
He can't finish can't shoot and looks out of control every time he goes to the basket. He is an excellent athlete, but he not a very good basketball player.
you said he was the worst offensive basketball player you have seen. You must not watch much at all. He can finish around the rim fine. Hell, nobody outside of McRae finishes consistently. They all look out of control at times, as I saw several charges today against Jrich, Barton, McRae, etc.
Let me rephrase that a little. He is one of the worst offensive players that I have ever seen that actually gets minutes at the division one level. He can't handle the ball he can't finish at the rim, and he can't shoot. He looks lost any time he gets the ball .
you don't seem to understand role players. That said, I could be proven well wrong here, but I would guess that this ytd, Moore's pt's per minute played is probably in line with Richardson, Barton, and most of the squad outside of the top 3. He's supposedly one of the worst D1 offensive players you have seen, but probably ranks top 5 on this team in points per minute played.
I have been watching basketball for the better part of 22 years, so yes I understand what a role player is, but I think this team(which tends to struggle to find baskets for long periods of time) would be better off bringing in a shooting threat (Derek Reese) than an athlete that has absolutely zero offensive game.
My bad Derek. I actually could see you in there spotting up. You can definitely shoot better, but your intensity lacks and you can't attack the basket or get after offensive rebounds as well. Basically, for being the worst skill player in D1, Moore has more offensive skills than you. You are one dimentional while Moore can attack off the dribble and rebound relentlessly.
It's on the coach to put the players in better positions to score, and make sure we get proper spacing, and make better subs. That loss was on the coaches, that being said they made the corrections they needed in the last 2 games, and did a great job.

How many point blank layups did Stokes and Maymon miss? A lot, just like in the first game against Xavier. Martin's scheme got them to the goal, what more do you want? It also got them to foul line where the players couldn't hit.
