The Blind Side

To bad Atlanta made all the money as far as filming goes, not one scene was filmed in Memphis ! Pieces me off!
Our town is getting better, Herenton is out and there's new more competent leaders in our city. they didn't even depict Ohers community outreach and attempts to turn his neighborhood around, things are changing, the movie showed the truth, and IMO gave Memphis a worse rep, but the more successful residents do invest in the city and bad communities too help make Memphis a better place, now there's only few hoods you "don't " go into , instead of the ENTIRE city.

It's really not that bad.

I don't know about racist but the movie does suck. It's over-sentimental garbage that's as cookie cutter and shallow as an episode of Full House. It depicts almost everyone except for Bullock's character as an idiot. The football in the movie is horribly unrealistic. And the acting, my goodness it's awful. For the life of me I can't believe Bullock won Best Actress and that the film got Oscar buzz.

10-15 years people will look back and laugh that this movie was considered good.

Kind of off topic, but I watched both movies recently and thought:

The Express >>>>> The Blind Side

Only reason I mention it is because The Blind Side was so much more hyped up. Completely overrated in my opinion. There really wasn't a single character in the movie that I liked, because they over did everyone's character to the point of ridicule. Even the little boy. I realize it's a movie, but it's supposed to be telling a life story, and it's hard to do so with puppet characters. It just had a really annoying "Disney Channel" feel to it.

Let me guess! You are a Democrat, right???? And only Democrats are allowed to help people. If anyone else does help someone, then it is because they have some type of hidden motive...
Only Democrats can be nice and thoughtful and help others....... Did I get it right?????

No, you couldnt be more wrong.

But thanks for injecting your political agenda into a thread about a poorly-written, sappy football movie.

I have no issues with a wealthy family of any race helping an underprivileged kid of any race.

I do have a problem with the movie portraying every black person in Oher's life as a villain. I refuse to believe there wasn't one black person in Oher's life who served as a positive influence.

That's why I feel the movie was borderline racist. It's no different than that stupid ESPN commercial with Tennessee fans in the elevator, reinforcing all kinds of negative stereotypes.

Ah I see

:hmm: Really??

If you're gonna throw a claim of racism out there you might want to explain yourself. Otherwise, you're no better than that nutcase Chris Matthews.

How is that movie racist? It recounts the true events of Michael Oher, currently playing for the Ravens.

Purple people helping a green kid after his own green people failed him along with their green culture which has been on a downward spiral ever since the purple people gave them the biggest helping hand ever will always be offensive to green people.

Exactly what I said about Avatard.

I always thought it was funny how that movie made Hugh Freeze (Burt Cotton) out to be an incompetent fool.

Other than Sandra Bullock's character, the tutor and the little kid, everyone else in the movie was portrayed as either an idiot or antagonist towards Oher.

Not true actually. There was one black person in the movie that was a positive, cause the one guy let him sleep on his couch from time to time. But I don't feel all of the characters were antagonist against him. Even when his mother was doing wrong, she was said to have made him close his eyes so he couldn't see the bad.

I personally feel the movie is more about many, countless even, people giving up on a young man, and with the dedication and belief from few, he was able to overcome it. There was black people in the movie that gave up on him, but there were white people too.

I can see part of where you are coming from, but as u alluded to the NCAA director, was her character as a judge/authority figure character supposed to bring him in and offer tea and crumpets? When he went back though, you saw the breakthrough with her as well. I thought the story line ran well and was a decent movie.

Good, thoughtful post. I can see where you're coming from also, although I don't completely agree with everything you said.

Oher's story is a great story, but I thought the movie was a little over the top...even Fulmer was overacting...with a Disney sit-com feel to it.

Some parts were definitely over the top. But it's definitely a complex story while being simple at the same time. When you first see it, you see the poor black kid that rises to prominence and makes a better life. What I like, is even though he could've been mad at the world for the hand he was dealt, he wasn't. I liked that while over the top at times, with the coaches, and some of the lingo.... the underlying story to me was about protecting one another, and being there for those that have major impacts on your life. I like that he never gave up on his mother despite her drug problems and shortcomings (I can relate to).... how as the Tooeys took him in, and in a way sheltered/protected him, he returned the same courtesy. Honestly though, I like how it shows not to judge a man by the clothes he wear, the color of his skin, or the size of his body.... rather, make your opinion of someone based on their deeds, heart, and dedication.

The things I was skeptical of though, was when she had to show him how to block and said he don't trust men, when I believe that to be one of the played up scenes, along with pretty much every college coaching scene. They could have done alot better with the movie, but it could've been a whole lot worse too.

When I first came on here and started reading your posts I thought to my self Oh Lord another race card player. However, after taking the time to read all of your posts I see you are a very thoughtful person and have a very valid point and opinion. Instead of some of us becoming defensive at the drop of a hat maybe we should learn to sit down with someone and get to know them first. Lord I'm having some church up in here. Anyway, great posts from everyone.

2 of the blindest groups of people in the world are the ones that throw the race card no matter what, and equally as bad are the ones who fail to acknowledge that racism still exists.
