The blue print on how to beat us is out

Carr was probably the only perimeter offensive player, sans Gainey, with the size, ability, and athleticism to get to and finish at the rim consistently. Losing him seems like a massive loss that greatly reduces the ceiling of this team, even with how inconsistent he was (which is something I certainly did not expect to be typing a few weeks ago.)
Yeah, we'll never really know what he could have provided, unfortunately, but at worst, he was another option. And as you said, he had athleticism in spades.

Went to the game tonight. One team took 77 shots and the other took 50. Guess who won? We really didn’t take many bad shots. I don’t really understand our inability to drive the ball or post up. Igor had a white kid that looked to be about 6 2 on him and we just ran the same old weave around the 3 point line instead of taking that guy down into the paint. Even in short clock situations we run the same offense. Pass to wing, pass back to top, pass to other wing, dribble handoff. It’s as if no one is allowed to even look at the rim until the ball is passed 4 times.it makes the defense work but if you’re trying to come back late in a game it just uses up clock.

Yep, it's been out. Florida showed everyone how to beat us. It's why we are 3-4 in our last 7 games.

Deny Lanier the ball, who quite frankly, doesn't work hard enough to get open, and let our other perimeter guys shoot us out of games.

We won't drive the basket, and if we do, we struggle mightily to finish at the rim.
We won't go inside to our post players on offense, either. So, that only leaves one option; the 3-pt shot (and an occasional midrange jumper, which is statistically a bad shot). We get by with being so bad offensively on some nights because our D is on point. Not tonight, not by a long shot.
Yep if Gainey or ZZ are hitting 33%+ from 3 we are hard to beat. You are spot on on Lanier I watched him last night and he just kind of gallops around no hard cuts make it easy on his defender. We at least need to throw it inside and hope the D crashes for a kickout 3. Lanier is good on kickout 3s or following a break away and the dribbler kicks it back to him.

Yeah, it was becoming a trend since Grant/Admiral until DK's year. Overall, our teams aren't athletic enough. We can't threaten the paint on straight line drives. We also seem to turn players into a worse 3pt shooter when they come in the door.

I don't fault Chaz. Watching his tape, he never looked like an athlete that was going to punish the rim. I think he's a fantastic role player. He would've put us over the top last year. We're just asking more than he's capable of. He's a great shooter being asking to score 20 a night. Very hard in this league when you're being game planned against.

One positive, Igor showed flashes. For this team to be anything, he's the one that has to be a consistent #2 guy. He has the ability in him.

Agree. Barnes has done so much good for UT, but I'm ready to start playing more modern offense.

Stop Lanier from getting wide open looks and leave everyone else open to shoot and just wait for the rebound. We will beat ourselves.

I mean I get what you are saying but when you struggle to score on a consistent basis no blue print is needed. If we aren’t shooting even remotely well from three it is pretty easy to out score us

Yep. I'm sure the committee is all about close losses and moral victories.
This.
Great teams figure out a way to win close games. Especially at home.
We're a good team because of our defensive. We will not be a great team tho, because of our offense.
The lesson to learn here is you can't hyper-focus on defense to the point you have no offense.
Balance. If we learn anything as a program this year ( and last few years), hopefully it is this. We need balance.

Not a Mistake if Barnes knows he is leaving, Gives the new coach some options.
No, it's a mistake. And I bet Barnes would tell you that, himself. College basketball is a year-to-year sport, anymore. You don't fill those two slots thinking about what the fallout 2-3 years down the road. If the guys you sing can't cut it, then they get cut. Scholarships aren't 4-year commitments, anymore. And if this is his last year, more than likely the new coach is building a roster from scratch, anyway.

Serious question....when have we been a good shooting TEAM? I mean, as a team?
Exactly, as someone else mentioned, we have a team where everyone is shooting below their careers 3pt percentage (sans Chaz) by a statistically significant amount? Is that simply because we pose no legit threat around the rim thus allowing other teams to focus their defense on the perimeter, creating the statistical anomaly? I get our lack of athleticism for driving and finishing, but genuine question: what's with our inability to recruit and develop offensive bigs?

Instead of a mistake, I’ll call it a gamble that isn’t presently working out. This team was #1 for 5 weeks and the team chemistry has been exemplary. Estrella getting injured wasn’t a surprise. Carr quiting (and what ever else he had going on) wasn’t expected. Dubar and Boswell not stepping up wasn’t either. And also Igor not living up to his pre-season expectations. AND Lanier losing his shot.

It could still work out with the smaller, tighter group over the entirety of the season. Nothing matters until March anyway. So I’ve been told a thousand times or more in here.

Yep. This is a streaky shooting bunch without any ability to attack the rim. One trick pony offensively.

We would sometimes drive the ball and if they go up quick possibly the shot is there. Instead they generally hesitate and look for another outlet which sometimes created a worse shot. We appear to be afraid we can't finish in the lane well or we've been conditioned to overpass like the open shot is there which generally we don't finish at a high percent.

This team is thin at every spot.

Calling it a gamble would imply there was an upside to leaving them open. I just don't know what that upside would be. I'll agree that the team has experienced a lot of unforeseen adversity in terms of player availability. But Boswell was never expected to be a heavy contributor, so that isn't a great example. Carr and Estrella were unexpected losses, and Dubar's early season personal issues contributed to him being behind.

I thought in the beginning it was a bold move by KY to let us have uncontested perimeter shots on our own home floor but turned out to be the right D plan. How you struggle to shoot uncontested 3's on your own court is a head scratcher for me.

There was enough talent there. Adding more could bring in problems. Bad attitudes and selfish players are things to avoid. What was available between Igor/Chaz and the walk-ons that meets the criteria? Chemistry has been superb.
