The blue print on how to beat us is out

I love Mashack, but my lord he hasn’t progressed shooting the ball at all. It’s shocking.
His form and mechanics have actually improved quite a bit. His effective FG% has risen every year, as has his FT%. He just refuses to be an offensive threat for some reason. He's not someone we want shooting it 10-12 times a game, necessarily, but he needs to be getting more than 4 attempts if he's going to play 28 mpg.

Take the damn thing to the basket, make them foul and get us to the line while putting them in foul trouble.
THAT is how we win games.
If you live by the 3, you die by the 3.

There was enough talent there. Adding more could bring in problems. Bad attitudes and selfish players are things to avoid. What was available between Igor/Chaz and the walk-ons that meets the criteria? Chemistry has been superb.
It's a delicate balance, no doubt, but I think there is room for some lower-level transfers who might be satisfied with lesser roles on a championship caliber team, or some developmental HS kids like we seem to be targeting, this year (Zyree Collins and Kennedy Okpara). How many high major teams carried 2 open scholarships into the season?

When Dubar makes a basket, instead of predictably missing an NBA 3 on the next possession, I wish he’d try to score from the paint. The high BB IQ just doesn’t seem to exist with that guy. Doesn’t seem to be very coachable either.

My neighbor went to the game last night. He said at halftime before the second half started he watched Mashack hit like 6 out of 8 three pointers from the corner.
Maybe he is just a terrible shooter, but some part of me just believes exerting 100% energy on defense has to effect your shot.
Would explain why a guy like Igor ( and even Dubar) has seen his 3 point percentages go down since coming here.

Those options sound a lot like our current walk-ons.

We really just need one more positive. Igor to step up. Mashack to score. Dubar to get his head screwed on. ZZ to find a capable finisher down low more often. Lanier to not be a massive no show. Gainey to be more consistent.

Out of all those I give Dubar the biggest pass.
Last night he came in and passed on a 3 and drove the ball to the hole and got a dunk. Then comes down and dove and saved the ball out of bounds. After that he made a nice pass to an open ZZ in the corner for a 3 ( that he unfortunately missed)
Then he get taken out. I don't know how he is supposed to develop any confidence or rhythm like that.

He won’t be taken out if he has the ability to do as he’s coached. I see him slowly progressing. He needs to buy in 100% or he won’t be getting minutes. If he does, it could be a big part of getting to that first ever FF.

I thought in the beginning it was a bold move by KY to let us have uncontested perimeter shots on our own home floor but turned out to be the right D plan. How you struggle to shoot uncontested 3's on your own court is a head scratcher for me.
I don't believe they really did that to many of our guys. They just aren't good defensively. Pope may have said that, but he would prefer Lanier and Gainey not have 18 shots from 3.

Everybody keeps saying he isn't " buying in" (usually referring to his D) but I seen him trying (and succeeding ) on the floor last night in regards. His D wasn't bad last night at all, and you seen him get that steal and take it all the way.
" Buying in" is a two-way street. Barnes also needs to "buy into" Dubar. Let him go for a few more minutes at a time.

No, it’s a one way street. The coach’s way or the highway.

Dubar has had limited minutes and I’ve seen him completely lose his mind at the end of 3 different games. Maybe instead of not buying in it’s just being stupid. Our defense falls apart without the discipline and buy in.

He'd rather that than drive to the hole every play, which KY has had problems stopping all year.
That's not Chaz's game though- only Igor and sometimes Gainey. I understand if Pope wanted to leave Mashack and Igor open, and they did. Igor shot 50% though. But our 3 point shooters shot most of our 3 pointers- Chaz, Gainey, and ZZ. It was an odd statement by him.

The whole team has lost their mind the last few games and looked lost at times (a lot of the time, especially on offense). That's on the coach. It's also the coaches job to get the most of their players.
If Dubar doesn't succeed this year, I'm not all sure it is all on him.

This is one thing that really bothers me. The shooter and often the others do not follow the shots up. When I played BB they stressed we follow our own shot and we had at least one rebounder under both sides of the basket scrambling for position. That was stressed so strongly.

I get frustrated that often the shooter or any other player gets to the rim. I see often if everyone did not turn around and head toward the opposite end when the ball is in the air we could have probably gotten the rebound.

Am I the only one that has noticed that?

You can also lead a horse to a dry pit of sand.

You’re off target with your Barnes hate. He puts every player into position to be successful. Those that don’t get it won’t find success at UT and probably not with a lot of other things as well. Everybody won’t get it and IMO DD is currently in that category.

Barnes is going to have to do something different offensively. We are not running any plays I can see to get the ball inside, except for Z's occassional ally oops

I remember coming out of a critical time out last night and the play was to get Chaz an open look at the elbow. It worked perfectly until Lanier bricked the shot.

Barnes hate? So if you critical of anything Barnes you're a hater? Yeah, no.
I've seen Igor " not get it" in actual games a lot this season. Offensively and defensively. Not everyone is going to be a Jamal Mashack defender. Especially in less than a season.
Difference between Igor and Dubar is Igor has been consistently allowed to play through his mistakes ( which at times have been many). We haven't seen Dubar play here enough to know if he is reaching his full potential.
