by defensive metrics, machado went from one of the best third baseman of his time to one of the worst shortstops on record. The sample isn’t huge, since we’ve only had these defensive metrics since 2002, but the difference really is that radical. Since the start of 2014, only two third basemen were better with the glove. By the same metric, this year’s effort at shortstop is the 11th-worst since fangraphs started using ultimate zone rating as a defensive metric in 2002.

Guys they aren’t trading Teheran or Inciarte. They are contending. You don’t trade guys with their track record when you are contending

I suppose I understand it in-season.

However, I think they should sell as high as they can on Julio (we’ve debated this ad-nauseum) and Ender has proven last year might have been a fluke.

You can’t sell high when he has little value right now. Your best value is hoping he turns it around and can help you down the stretch. I don’t think the Braves would get a top 10 system product right now for him so why trade him? At the very least he eats innings and can have a great start.

Ender is an average hitter. He relies on singles and his BABIP is 46 points below normal. He’s been bad but he’s still a plus defender and can still you a base. He could easily bat .320 after the ASG break and get back to his normal season output. Unless you get a big time OF bat that can help no point in trading him. He’s also on a super team friendly deal.
