The Braves Thread

The day I’m debating baseball with someone who thinks Brendan Rodgers and his .571 non Coors OPS would be a “great signing” is the day I’ll hang em up. I’ll give ya one guess who this belongs to and it’s not Paul dejong

Maybe great signing was a bit much. But Rodgers has a career .628 OPS away from Coors field, which is perfectly acceptable for a bench player. Also, the vast majority of players hit worse on the road than at home. Even some players that play their home games in notorious pitcher parks (like Machado in Petco) still hit better at home than on the road. Sure, you should knock Rodgers for playing home games at Coors, but you can't just assume his road stats are his true value.

Defensively they are probably a wash. I'll admit I thought Rodgers was a much better defender. He typically has been a very good defensive 2b but his 2024 defensive stats were very rough, and he hasn't played any other position since 2021. DeJong is a very poor defender at SS at this point, but showed some strong defense at 3b last year and at least has experience at 2b. Both can play SS in a pinch, but neither player is someone you want to give extended time to at SS.

Also, since 2020 this is DeJong's TOTAL batting line:

.208/.274/.374 .648 OPS.

Here is Rodger's career batting line with just his numbers away from Coors:

.227/.272/.356 .628 OPS.

So if you do indeed think Rodger's true value is closer to his away slash line, then he has still been virtually the same hitter as Dejong since 2020.

Agreed.

But Dylan Lee is legit. Don't really care how hard he throws. 2.58 career ERA and a K/9 over 10 with a BB rate of 2.3 is good enough for me.

Also, don't sleep on Perdomo. He was very impressive the last time he was healthy.

We are really going into this season with this pitching staff man

That Pen is so weak, but Twitter tells me Dylan soft tossing Lee is great as our #1 lefty
You mean you aren’t happy with
Sale (injury risk)
Schwellenbach (injury risk)
Lopez (regression & injury risk)
Anderson (all known possible risks associated)
Grant HIMs

Anyone at any given time is an injury risk. How much trouble would the Phillies be in if Zach Wheeler needs TJ at some point (again) this season?

You could make the same case for pretty much every team

Him doing that in the regular season as a 6th inning guy vs being the #1 lefty will be 2 different things. I also don’t care about regular season. I’d say Bryce would sign up to face him 10/10 times in a playoff matchup

Perdomo has thrown a whopping 48 innings since 2020. lol get serious bro

Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola have combined for one IL stint in the last 6+ years.

They have more 200 IP seasons than Atlanta’s entire organization

You can make whatever case you want but you can also be wrong
