I agree but is Soto really worth the $51 million a year annually? Are 40+ homers and 100+ RBI's worth the squeeze? Time will tell but Kudos to his agent Scott Boras for getting this big deal done.He will complete the 6th season of this contract (assuming he doesn’t opt out) as a 31 year old
Hardly a regrettable age to have an historically great hitter under contract
In a market like NY he’ll be worth every penny and 5 years from now we’ll view that AAV the same way we do Bryce Harper now.I agree but is Soto really worth the $51 million a year annually? I’m not worried about their pitching… or their offense.. as currently constructed. But I would imagine if Stearns can figure it out in Milwaukee then he should do ok with Cohen. The Mets pitching still doesn't totally scare me.
If they get their rotation figured out then ill.be worried.
Oh I know.... You think any real championship contender is running Orlando Arcia at SS for more than one year?I’m not worried about their pitching… or their offense.. as currently constructed. But I would imagine if Stearns can figure it out in Milwaukee then he should do ok with Cohen.
It’s like when Friedman left the Rays for the dodgers. Chance it doesn’t work out..probably more like to be a significant divisional hurdle for years to come even if not immediately.
Makes everything AA has (or hasn’t) done the last few years more annoying. We have been existing in our championship window and made exactly zero “all-in” moves.
We’ve had relatively minimal competition for championships with a very cheap core in place and have spent all our time pussyfooting around the edges.
The thing about Cohen is that it isn't really in his nature to listen to other people. He made billions of dollars trading stocks - he thinks he knows everything. He has some Trump-like qualities to him. It wouldn't surprise me if as time goes on he has a falling out with Stearns, or whoever his GM happens to be.Dave Dombroski (Phillies) is really good at spending money but he has no idea what he’s doing.
I was hoping Cohen would fall into this bucket and probably does individually, but Stearns is good.
