The Braves Thread

Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola have combined for one IL stint in the last 6+ years.

They have more 200 IP seasons than Atlanta’s entire organization

You can make whatever case you want but you can also be wrong
Good for them. That doesn't change the fact that either of them could need TJ tomorrow, and the Phillies look a lot different. If you are going on hypotheticals of Sale/Schwelly/Lopez/Holmes/Anderson, why can't I?

The Braves are a projected top 5 staff by every outlet; there wasn't a starting pitcher in the FA market who didn't have injury issues.

That’s not how probabilities work but if you want to live in fantasyland I won’t stop you

More to the point

Ranger Suarez, Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo are probably more equipped to step up a rotation slot in the event of any injury than Ian Anderson and Grant Holmes are

Those guys also have 150 IP MLB seasons under their belts unlike 4/5 of our rotation

All of these possibilities are hypotheticals, but I think reasonable people would agree that some are more likely than others.

We've had to start, in playoff games, at some point

2020: Bryce Wilson
2021: Tucker Davidson
2022: Hadn't pitched in MLB in a month Spencer Strider
2023: Bryce Elder
2024: AJ Smith-Shawver

Just adding Heaney as your fifth guy would make me feel a lot better. Having Holmes in the bullpen makes your team better. You can take your time with Strider and skip a few starts with Schwelly. You can go 6 man rotation with Strider. You can have Heaney in the bullpen later in the year as an additional lefty. Just makes too much sense for this team.

But hey, we only lost one of the 10 best pitchers of the decade! We are a genius organization, we can replace him without any external upgrades! Everything is hunky dory!

Tigers are sneaky good. They lost no one from their late season post-season run and they added Torres, Kahnle, and Flaherty. And they sport 2 top 10 overall prospects that are both MLB ready.

Am I missing someone besides Jobe?

I actually generally agree - division is winnable and I think Riley Greene is an under the radar "could go nuclear" guy.

I also agree with multiple fine folks in here on the Red Sox. That thought has been simmering and glad to know I'm not alone. I think they did some sneaky excellent stuff.

AL East is gonna be a dog fight. Someone who makes a big trade early, rather than at the deadline, may benefit big time.

FG has ALE 87-82 wins across the board. PECOTA 89-79.

I was talking about Max Clark, but I must have gotten him confused with someone else cause he hasn't even reached AA yet.

What defines “sneaky good”

They won 86 games last year. Pretty difficult to see an increase in that number.

They did so while sending most of their better players away at the deadline. They have definitely improved the team over the one they finished the season with.
