It's quite evident that our guys are poorly coached on zone offense, but with the sloppy passing of our guards would we be able to execute if we knew how to attack a zone defense?

You can't have it both ways. This team has a terrible roster compared to last year and there is no one to blame but Pearl, his staff, and their NCAA trouble. This program is still in the wake of what happened last year. I see the same uninspired play from less talented players. You can't really polish a turd unless you ate some gold. It is way too early to hang this on Martin.
Like pl3 said, the schematics of attacking a zone defense shouldn't need to be taught at the collegiate level. It is elementary. Outside of learning specific plays that your coach wants to run against a zone defense, you shouldn't need to learn it all over again. I was taught how to execute and attack a zone defense in elementary school.
Nah. He just lost to a Charlotte team on the road that went 1-12 to finish the season. His team was also blown out by College of Charleston at home. The Oakland loss was also at home. Comparing miseries should really start after the Pitt win. Everything kind of unraveled from then on. That includes now. This is also a much less talented team than last year's.
Because Martin couldn't keep the decent recruits that Bruce had almost committed until he was fired. The talent on this team is atleast half to blame on Martin. Couldn't keep Harris or Hopson which we needed his senior leadership more than production.
So having said that -- if you were on the bench and you were the assistant to the assitant to the assistant head coach and you watched us casually passing it around the perimeter and you had an unstoppable force like Maymon inside would you sit on your hands and say "Oh well those guys should already know how to penetrate - draw people to them and then pass off" or would you call a timeout or scream from the sidelines and reinforce this basic premise?
If your response is - "I just like to watch" then you should be sitting next to our 12 - 15coaches/trainers/managers/entourage.
In addition to being outplayed by Austin Peay and C o C,
we appear to be getting out coached. I am not in the huddles during timeouts nor am I sitting with the coaches but I don't like what I see.
I continue to pull for Quonzo and company but if this was daughter's middle school coach I would be concerned with the floor adjustments and coaching.
Why? He didn't recruit anyone worth a scholarship. He didn't put any effort into trying to keep Hopson or harris. All I'm saying is he wasn't restricted from rolling up his sleeves and going to work hard.
Both of those recruits did not qualify academically. Harris said tons of times he would leave if he was going to be drafted high enough. He did roll up his sleeves and work. Also all of his recruits are better than Mcbee who was given a scholly by Pearl
I'm assuming the staff was trying to set plays, but also telling them to penetrate when they can. I've never been in a huddle that worked any differently. You still have to have the players that can and want to. We have some that can, and have some that want to. We just don't have the combination.
You may be right.
You keep posting we lost 75% of our scoring and thats not true. Do you think posting incorrect data over and over makes it so. Are you a politician?
I'm not a politician but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.. Seriously, get out your calculator, do the math and prove my statement wrong. I may be off by 1 or 2 percentatge points. Go for it.
