The coaching situation at TAMU

+1

Doubt he'll beat Petrino either. 10-2, 9-3 at best every season and no SEC title game appearances won't cut it unless they are just looking for SEC mediocrity.

Your right, I forgot about Petrino. So with Mark Richt they would probably around 4th in the west and 3rd on years when Arkansas is down. aTm had a hard time winning the Big 12, I don't know why anyone expects aTm to all of a sudden become a program capable of winning the SEC.

I was under the impression the Richt talk was just a ploy for him to get a raise. With him in the mix legitimately, it throws everything into a cluster f.

So I'm guessing these rumors were blown up a bit? Looks like it's being used for a new extension.

True. And I forgot Auburn as well. They had a down year this year but Auburn is no slouch. A&M won't ride easy in the West as some may think.

I don't think anyone who follows college football, including Aggies, feel their ride in the West will be easy. Climbing Everest in May without supplemental oxygen is probably easier.

To salvage whats left of this class, the University needs to make a move today. I expect something to be said about us going forward by the afternoon.

Whether they are realistic (meaning they're not just looking for a raise at their current school), or not the list includes in no certain order:

Sumlin
Richt
Petersen
Smart
and a "dark horse that hasn't been named"

As I've said previously, I was told Sumlin agreed to come here. He has been the guy I've eluded to all along. At this juncture though, I cant see why in the hell he would want to.

With the addition of the handful of names over the last 24 hours, the only thing left is speculation. All of my loop have essentially told me, "With those other guys in the mix, its back up in the air". Over the course of this week, I've had several email conversations and face time with them and no one ever waived off of Sumlin, but last night and this morning, opinions have changed on that confirmation. Everyone, however, has reconfirmed that today is "the day". The "who" is one of those I mentioned.

As for that "dark horse", I have no clue and if anyone of my contacts knows, they ain't saying.

Not a well kept secret on my part, but I was on board with Tubbs prior to the Sherman hire. I would have taken him then, and I'll gladly take him now.

I haven't read all of this and sorry if you have already been asked but what are the chances right now that Sumlin is the hire?

I would assume if its him it would happen VERY soon.

I'd say as of now, Sumlin would be it, provided that we are turned down by one of the others. He said he'd take it last week.

I'll gladly take him now.

I would too.

A year ago, I met a Tech scholarship football player who was sitting out the year (red shirt). He picked Tech over Tennessee. He opted for Tech because he wanted to be close to home, plus he really liked Tubberville.

We could do a lot worse.

It's been reported that Troy Calhoun has interviewed.

Could he be the "dark horse" ?

It'd be a great hire.

If A&M hired him I don't think it would be well received by the masses. But I also don't think they understand his history...they're thinking about his current job at Tech. He knows A&M, he knows the SEC, and he knows defense. My only hesitation with him would be his offensive side of the ball.
