The Comic Book/Graphic Novel thread

I'm a fan of both Marvel and DC Comics.

For comic books The Fury of Firestorm the newest volume.
Ghost Rider the one that had Heaven on Fire, and fight World War Hulk.
Ghost Rider (Zarathos) showed how strong he was when he killed Jack O Lantern a avatar used by the Hell Lord Lucifer.
No relation to the enemy of X-Men.

Shocker is one major underrated super villain. The guy was able to create his gauntlets, and protective suit in Prison that's a feat equal to Tony Stark creating the original armor of Iron Man in cave.
He's way to smart to be working for other Super Villains. He should be making money in some unethical way, also a mini series should explain extorting and robbing if he wants to build a proffesional reputation.
I think he has enough power to defeat Tiger Shark if this is a fight away from water, and Shocker can shoot things around the enviorment to fall on Tiger Shark.

Why does the Scarlet Witch, Zatanna, Black Canary, and multiple other female characters wear panty hose?

Zatanna actually made sense as she was a stage magician by day. Now she wears leather pants since the NEW 52.

Just finished Batman: Death by Design by Chip Kid and Dave Taylor. It's an original graphic novel (OGN) set the 1940's but the story is loosley based off two real world events. It has a nice art style that appears to be charcoal with just a hint of sepia for mood.

My sister-in-law had given it to me for Xmas but I just now got around to reading it. Can't say I would have bought it myself so I'm glad she got it for me as it was a good read.

Scarlet Witch Pantyhose since her costume is very revealing if it got ripped she still has something covering her body from the belly button bellow, some protection for her legs, and maybe she and others like the soft feel for their legs.

Are there bad characters?
I think there are bad characters. By that I mean they were a bad idea, if they have to be mostly revamped going away from the original idea that it's no longer the original idea of what they were plus changing their name it's admitting they are a failure.

For example the Super Villain Paste Pot Pete. That name is crap, his costume is also crap it looks like the pajamas of Scrooge, and his weapon I think a glue squirt gun.
Change of costume, powers abilties, and and his super villain changed to The Trapster.

I've always been one to say there are no bad characters as long as the right creator comes along. I kind of see your point regarding the Trapster.

However, all characters have experienced redesigns and backstory tweaks at different points in their history. Some more extreme than others.

For example, the Golden Age DC characters (with the exception of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) were completely re tooled in the Silver Age with brand new identities, costumes, and origins. Just because Hal Jordan and Barry Allen were the new versions of Green Lantern and The Flash respectively, does not mean that Alan Scott and Jay Garrick were bad characters.

ComicCon this weekend. It's always fun to see what big announcements come out, even though I rarely end up reading half the stuff Marvel or DC announce.

I've been fortunate to attend twice. It's an experience thay everyone should try to get out there at least once. If not just for the comics side then for the movies and gaming as well. My buddy that owns my local comic shop is out there already for his fourth visit. I'm jelli.

There are such things as bad ideas and I think bad characters are examples of those. Meaning not even a great or excellent writer could change it into a good, very good, or excellent idea.
While vast characters have had redesigns it's Paste Pot Pete that had a garbage name one that when he introduced himself Spider Man laughed.

I think if someone has to redesign the character that it's so far from the original idea then it's admitting they are a failure.

Kangaroo
The first one had a garbage costume, and made one a execrable decision I think of pushing something that helped get him defeated it was like something out of the tv show Jackass although he didn't want the negative result which makes it that much worse.
The 2nd one I think is a man from Austrilia that worshiped that embarassment deciding to continue with the crappy name.

Rainbow Raider
He is color blind so he decides he'll steal art so the world will suffer with him, the name is crap, and the costume is as much of a joke as the name.
Orca
The crap version of Killer Croc.
Mr.Polka Dot
Polka Dots they are good for women's dresses but as a super villain name it's garbage he must have been drunk and high to think this was good. Another one with a crappy costume.

I rarely read physical. I prefer digital comics...

Batman 66 is amazing, just read the second issue. I am not a massive Batman guy, I haven't read much of him over the years, but so far this is the best Batman I have ever read, the artwork and humour is amazing.

Do you use Comixology or are you a torrent guy?

I haven't read Scott Snyder's Batman, although I've heard nothing but great things.. I'm finishing up Grant Morrison's run with the end if Batman Inc but that's really a continuation of pre New 52.

I like Comixology. I'm moving more toward exclusive digital. By the end of Aug I will be down to only 2 print books (Indestructible Hulk and Daredevil).

However, I have a hard time paying $3-4 per issue for a digital copy. I usually wait for the 99¢ sales. I dropped $100 on the Hellblazer sale a couple months ago. Still catching up on those.

My local comic shop owner (who was my best man) is not a fan of digital for obvious reasons. Comixology actually offers retailers a cut thru a digital store front that's free for them to sign up. I've been trying to convince him he should do it for over a year.

Just finished Daredevil: End of Days. Although I burned out on Bendis as a whole toward the end of his Daredevil run I went ahead and bought this series just to see how he would have wraped up Matt Murdock's final story. I waited until I had all 8 issues before reading it and finally sat down with it earlier this week. It was actually really good and didn't feel bogged down by Bendis's penchant for decompressing the story with pages upon pages of talking heads with pseudo-realistic dialog.

He took an interesting spin on the oft told heroes last adventure tale by killing Matt Murdock in the opening pages of the story. He then set Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich on a Citizen Kane-esque quest for the meaning of Murdock's last word. Along the way he visited regular DD supporting cast of villains, heroes, and anti-heroes. He tied up some loose ends from his own run while also nodding to those that came before him.

Finished Batman: TDKR. Pretty cool.

Having just killed off the most recent Robin a few months ago, DC is supposedly on the verge of making Carrie Kelly the new Robin in the main Batman titles. They have introduced her character recently and heavily foreshadowing her ascension into the role.

I haven't been reading the current Batman titles other than Grant Morrison's Batman Inc (where Robin died). I hear the main Batman title by Scott Snyder is pretty good though.

Mole Man?

I'm changing this to most delusional super villains.

A major one is Doctor Doom

Likely he believes he's the smartest man person in the universe.
He believes he's flawless, and never wrong both of which are garbage. Rees told him problems with his device he ignored it exploded possibly scarred his face, then he puts the mask while still scorching disfiguring his face. These are choices he made yet in his Mile high delusional mind he believes its Mr.Fantastic's fault along with most of his other problems.
He believes he has no equal also garbage Doctor Strange beat him out for Sorcerer Supreme, Mr.Fantastic whether by himself or the fantastic four having defeated vast amount of times, and anyone else that's beaten him showing him to be beatable which means he's flawed, and not perfect.

Doom is arrogant but I'm not sure I would describe him as delusional. He did invent the time platform which was the basis for all time travel technology in the Marvel U.

I'm not saying he isn't brilliant the guy did steal silver surfers powers I don't recall other super villains in Marvel 616univwerae doing that amazing feat.

But he is very delusional in what I listed.
Doctor doom isn't the only brilliant man in the Marvel universe, if he had no equal he would have freakin defeated Fantastic Four long ago. He freakin needed Doctor Strange to get his mother out of Mephisto's dimension .

Doctor Doom is like a alcoholic. He refuses to believe he has a problem which is himself believing Mr.Fantastic is responsible for most of his problems.
He could solve world hunger, air pollution, cure cancer, and other world problems if he would drop the needing to prove he's smarter than Mr.Fantastic but he won't.

Venom (Eddie Brock)
He blames spider man for getting fired at a newspaper along with problems after that. In his warped very delusional mind he believes spider man to be a villain, and himself to be a hero. Also the whole spider man is soft because he won't kill no he's not the freakin psychopath that venom is.

On Net there is a documentary SuperHeroes a never ending battle.
