The cumulative Pearl thread

Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

Some of you should just stop being Tennessee hoops fans.

If he can weather through this storm and not lose his job, he will be at Tennessee for a long long long time.

This is a terrifying thought for some of you, but for fans who can appreciate the unprecedented heights that the team has reached under CBP this is a very hopeful time.

Thats not to say that the hopeful fans don't acknowledge the mistakes that were made, and the negative light that they have shown the program. But as a hopeful fan, you can look forward to when this is finally over in June to a re-energized CBP that will be a on a mission to rectify his name and win even bigger than he has in the past.

If CBP doesn't get fired, we will be in very good shape to win a lot of games and compete for conference titles and in the national tournament. Only time and running a clean program can make up for the tarnishing that the program has gone through on his watch... but, be hopeful that the light is bright at the end of the tunnel.

NegaPearls beware, if he gets through this, Its going to be a miserable next decade for you.

Did the last thread about this not go to your liking?

This is true. At least we have the South Carolinas, Arkansas, Misissippis, and Auburns of the world to make us look better.

Florida loses at least 3 starters in Tyus, Macklin, and Parsons. Honestly, we should still be in fairly good position to compete for 2nd in the East.

Watching Florida try to get enough shots for Boynton, Beal, Walker, and Rosario next season should be excellent entertainment. If handled correctly, that perimeter could be deadly though.

He hasn't recruited worth a damn to begin with. It can't take MUCH of a hit.

Seriously????

You have to be hitting the bottle early today to think that.... If you think O'Niel or Buzz Light Year recruited you are mad...... we couldn't even sniff top 100 Players barely until Bruce came around. Now we have 10 or more every single year on the considered list.

Wow. I can't believe that was even brought up. I was a student during O'Niel and Buzz years.... you couldn't give away a lower level ticket.... hell we would play ranked teams with less than 500 students in attendance outside of the UK game.

Just terrible if you think Bruce doesn't recruit well. Ecspecially based on our prior hoops recruiting under the old regimes!

Did your mistakes and lies drag an entire university's image through the mud?

I'm just saying no one is perfect. People make mistakes. If you read the OP he is saying how this could make Pearl a better person, coach, whatever else. I am agreeing that this could make Pearl stronger for it. Have you never made a mistake and lied about it? His is just on a grander stage. It is all relative.

I'm no expert, but from everything I'm reading, I don't see how we could keep Pearl even if we wanted to ... it seems like the two year "show cause" ban is a NCAA ban ... again, no expert

Will you and the rest of the disciples be mailing out flyers
telling recruits not to come here.

Disciples? Good one. I was a Pearl fan until his idiotic episode of lying to the NCAA over a secondary violation, crying at a press conference talking about how he learned a lesson, then less than a week later, knowingly commit a violation.

There is no proof of this. If anything, the fact that he had a big cry fest apology and then comitted yet another violation soon after, tends to support that he hasn't learned a damn thing.

2 of his Sweet 16's were largely due to Buzz recruits, no?
Cj Watson for a year, Lofton, Jujuan for 3, Dane for 2, Wingate for 1. Most of Pearl's great success was with Buzz's talent. Pearl has brought in Chism and Prince(transfer) that I would say at this point are great recruits when looking at overall contributions. Who does it seem evaluates talent better? Pearl had a bulk of his success with guys who would never have been at UT if not for Buzz bringing them, none were big time recruits. Perhaps Buzz couldn't coach or develop, but not sure I would knock his eye for talent. Obviously, he had some duds too, but the success everyone speaks to is because of guys Buzz spotted. Also, Buzz had Tyler Smith on board already when fired. Not saying Buzz necc. was better recruiter, cause Pearl has had better ratings, but Buzz's recruits proved more successful in terms of careers.

Since I had my last post deleted I'll respond again. It's astonishing that you, amongst many, many, many, many, many, many others, can't designate the difference between pulling for a university and worshiping a lying coach.

Maybe this post will get to stay.

Grander stage indeed. I wouldn't compare a typical person's mistakes to Pearl's. Not many fans on here getting a million dollars plus to represent a university and state. To whom much is given.....much is required

Being on the stage he is on has loftier expectations, just a part of becoming a millionaire by coaching bball. Nature of the beast. Furthermore, I know some kids who were fired from a grocery store for lying about seeing another kid steal. That is what happens to most people with much less reward for their jobs. I don't apoliogize for expecting more of people who coach at UT. They are rewarded handsomely and should be expected to represent better. I don't expect a coach to be perfect, just expect them not to lie to a governing body and try to get others to obstruct an investigation by that governing body. Maybe I'm a dreamer..

Do you even know what the violation was?

Good point. Thanks for arguing with a point instead of bashing another persons opinion with no substance besides "your wrong", as many do.

No problem! I enjoy the dialogue, try not to get into the attacks. I won't be miserable either way. I was a Vol fan under Wade, and will be regardless of what happens. OP is under the impression that those who feel that a change is in order, are going to root against UT. That is my point, it's about UT with me, not Pearl. My opinions are based on what I think is best for the program is a whole. People can have other views, I just wish they would do so wiyh calling us Nega-Vols and using same old lines.

It's odd isn't it?

I really at this point don't care either way what happens, I have lost respect for Pearl, and I just want this to be over. But who is it that you think would come in and do what Pearl has done? Who do you think could come in and take us to the tourney the next 5 years, including 2 sweet 16's and an Elite Eight. I'm not saying it can't be done, but just wondering some names of coaches available to do this.

I don't think we will get another like Pearl, in terms of PR, excitement, etc. I do think Mike Anderson, Gregg Marshall, And Anthony Grant would be super successful, esp Grant and Anderson. I would say those 2, in terms of recruiting and coaching, may be upgrades. Think they could be great with facilities and $ UT has to offer. If UT is willing to pay 2.5-3 mil at least(imo) they will do fine. Just my opinion though

Im tired of this being thrown out there without anyone giving credence to the fact that our own compliance people said this wasnt an infraction. Ultimately i know the ncaa decides this but people keep jumping to conxlusions without asking questions. So if that allegation is cleared do u jump back on the train?
