You maybe right on the final outcome but where exactly are you pulling this 95% from?

I'm sure it was a well thought out analysis. I bet the poll numbers will be totally reversed when the sanctions come down.

Probably from the fact that 19 of the last 20 people hit with unethical conduct charges have received a show cause penalty.

That would be correct.

Silliness. Anyone who does not hate Jews realizes that the combination of chest paint, fake tears and a mistress drops that percentage to around 8%. That and when test results in fact prove Bruce's blood is orange, the 'AA will have no choice but to exonerate him.

You're just a hater.

This is my favorite part. A lot of the people on this board seem think that because they vote yes to the poll above, that it somehow means that Bruce will stay. As if in some pseudo-reality just wishing for something to happen, will in fact cause it to be actual reality.

The majority of this board misses the point. It doesn't matter how much you like Pearl, which just baffles me. After everything that has come out publicly, people still think he's what they always thought he was. How bad does it have to get to prove to the majority that what Bruce did was really bad, and completely requires termination of his job at the University of Tennessee?

If you put it that way....I guess I am guilty. ha

It's a win at all cost philosophy coupled with the everyone else is doing it mentality.

1. The guy could sell ice to eskimos.

2. People, in general, are terrified of change.

3. People really don't care as long as he's winning.

Agreed. I would love to win every game but not at the cost of hearing UT berated during every game we play. It really isn't worth it in the long run. UT will bounce back if Pearl is gone.

And why people refuse to see it that way is beyond me.

I am late to the discussion but because of my age (55), I do have a good memory of Tennessee basketball. First and foremost Bruce is in real trouble because he lied not because he cheated.

Cheating is always wrong but there are degrees of cheating. His "cheating" consisted of too many text messages and a cookout. He didn't pay anyone off (see Alabama); he didn't have players cheat on exams (See Calapri).

Not telling the truth is also always wrong. To Bruce's credit, he was the one to call the NCAA back and admit it. We don't know if he was on the verge of getting caught or truly had a guilty conscience. Only he knows that.

But here is my real point of this reply. In life when we do good things, we earn "brownie points". When we screw up, husbands, wives, employers look at our screw up and our brownie points and weigh them against each other to determine what happens next.

Bruce Pearl has earned more brownie points than all the other Tennessee coaches (except for Ray Mears) combined. That's why Don Devoe would probably have been fired if he had done the same thing Bruce did. That is why Bruce is still loved and still the coach of the Vols. It's that simple.

Good post, unless UT is getting the death penalty from the NCAA, I don't see him going anywhere unless he chooses to leave. Not to mention hiring Bruce is the only hire Hamilton has made that has worked out so far. I think Dooley is TBD.

I think it has to do with a lot of people only paying attention to UT basketball because of Pearl. They hear rumors of how UT wasn't very good before him, and can't imagine UT being good after him. It boils down to two things... stupidity or being a bandwagon fan. Both are interchangeable though.

Valid points.

interesting article on this regarding the ohio state situation.
OSU football: Source of e-mails to Tressel revealed | BuckeyeXtra

Since 2006, the NCAA has sanctioned 27 schools for violating bylaw 10.1, which requires coaches and others to be truthful and forthcoming about possible NCAA violations. Of the 12 coaches involved, only one kept his job. The others either resigned or were fired by their schools.

Shirley Walker, the 1 coach not forced out for violating Bylaw 10.1, won 11 league titles & was fired at Alcorn 2 yrs later for losing rcd.

I think that sums up a lot of it very well.

Hate to split hairs but the media hasn't been berating Tennessee. Their ire has been directed towards Bruce Pearl.

Yea,I know...he's our head coach...Try not to be too shocked when he's still our head coach next season.

You don't think they will if UT retains him?

Yeah, his hire of Pearl is so great that it has brought nothing but greatness for the university and the basketball program. All the constant negatives, unethical conduct, and pending NCAA sanctions that will set the program back further than it was when Pearl arrived is also, somehow, noting but positive for you Pearl lovers. This hire has worked out so well, Hamilton should receive a raise.

The funny thing is that it's the people who didn't actually watch much UT basketball during the Doug Dickey years that howl the loudest about how we're doomed to go right back to Buzz Peterson or Wade Houston if we don't keep Pearl. People who actually sat through all those years don't seem nearly as worried about it.

I think we can all agree that before the NCAA stuff Pearl was a good hire. You can't say he was a bad hire just because of something he did 5 years later.
