There are basically two groups of fans on this board, each of which has a different hierarchy of priorities that are relevant to this situation. It goes roughly like this:

GROUP A

1. Reputation and integrity of the University
2. Integrity of the basketball program (ie, "doing it the right way")
3. Winning

GROUP B

1. Winning
2. Personal loyalty to Pearl for reinvigorating the program
3. Reputation of the basketball program

We can have these arguments for 100 years and nobody's ever going to change anybody's mind because both groups have different priorities. Everybody cares if UT basketball wins; it's just that some of us rank that as less important than other things.

It could be he's a liar that got caught.

It wouldn't be so bad had he not sold himself as a beacon of all that's right in college basketball. "I play by the rules because I recorded a minor's telephone conversation without his consent".

It also wouldn't be near as bad had he not went out and committed another violation 4 days after his tearful press conference.
