1 point from final 4 last year...

And 10 years down the road the only people that will remember that are die hard Vol fans. Sweet.

You've been outed, run back to Rupp Rafters.

It's literally laughable that you, who signed up in 2010 are calling me a troll when I've been here since 2006 and live and die UT sports. Quite possibly the lamest thing I have seen on this site. That's a tough title to get but you're unreal.

Any coach that isn't a liar and hypocrite will be an improvement.

I think he's learned from his mistake. In this society people are always given a second chance. Why should he be no different?

Correct me if wrong, but will this be Bruce Pearl's 6th straight tourney appearence? I know this year wasn't the best, but this is what I mean when I say vol fans are to quick to turn against our own.

There's been a lot of garbage posted on this board and you starting this thread moments after a loss ranks right up there. Most in this thread have realized it and called you on it. Run along now.

My apologies to you if you consider a regular season title a title of note.

If a conference title isn't a title of note, exactly what is? Or, are you just trying to construct the argument in a way that allows for Pearl to have no accomplishments?

He lied, lied again, and then lied some more. I'm sorry but his little apology and tears didn't do anything for me. He made a mockery of our school and program. Period.

This year, we went 8-8 in perhaps the worst overall SEC in history. Sorry if I'm not wetting myself because of another tourney appearance.

Ture....

Bruce has always shown orange blood... that should matter and be thicker than water..

Again, the only people that will remember who won the regular season title in 2008 10 years down the road with be UT fans. It's something the rest of the population will not think of or even care.

Iowa fans are laughing.

This is amazing.
Before Pearl arrived at UT, UT had a total of 2 trips to the sweet sixteen.

In 5 seasons he's had 2 trips to the sweet 16 and an elite 8 appearance. He's the best coach in UT basketball history. And this after taking over a team with a losing record who lost the leading scorer and rebounder to graduation.

Ironic since a little over a decade ago UT was 4 min from elite 8, seems many 'real fans' that defend Pearl all day have forgotten that since there was no UT bball in Knoxville. Also recall 4 20 win seasons. I am getting confused on who real fans are? Wonder how many pro-Pearl fans can name that UT roster without looking it up...

What about 3rd, 4th chances? Bruce Pearl isn't one of my own, I appreciate the on court results but he has been embarrassment off it in more ways than 1

You guys are apparently unaware of how the NCAA tournament worked before it expanded to the modern field of 64.

Tennessee had a fine basketball history, second only in the SEC to Kentucky, up until the 80s. Unfortunately for most of that time you had to win the conference to get into the tournament, and we played in the same conference as Kentucky, so we didn't have much tournament success. The good news in the 80s was that they expanded the tournament, but the bad news is that we hired Doug Dickey as athletic director, and Doug Dickey doesn't give a shat about basketball. So we didn't spend any money on basketball or hire good coaches. And so the depressing period of Tennessee basketball that scarred most of our formative years ensued.

It doesn't have to be that way forever.

Very good point about the tourney change, but...

The Volunteers have had 18 NCAA tournament appearances with an overall record of 12-17.

The way I count that 75% of our NCAA tourney wins (8) come under Bruce. He has been a great coach for us. Except for this year in which he has been under stress and looks as if has aged 10 years.

He has embarrassed UT off the field which is not OK. Does he deserve a second chance? Maybe...

Doesn't change the fact that Pearl did more in the previous 5 seasons then UT basketball had accomplished in the previous 30 seasons. Given the expanded tournament is relatively new.
Talking about how great your basketball program was in the 50' and 60's and earlier, if you go back far enough Harvard and Yale had a great football program but it's not relevant now.

It is relevant if delusional Harvard and Yale fans were defending a cheating coach under the premise that they have never had a football program before that coach arrived

This is a common mischaracterization you see on this board.

No one is defending the fact Pearl cheated. The question has always been whether or not this is enough reason to replace him. Most people think as I do, he should not have cheated but we should give him another chance, he's the one who put UT basketball on the map. But go ahead continue your delusion if it makes you feel better. :)
