Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

This is a common mischaracterization you see on this board.

No one is defending the fact Pearl cheated. The question has always been whether or not this is enough reason to replace him. Most people think as I do, he should not have cheated but we should give him another chance, he's the one who put UT basketball on the map. But go ahead continue your delusion if it makes you feel better. :)

Your statement there is the real delusion.

How many trips did UT make to the elite 8 before Pearl got here?

Yes, I believe it's well established that Pearl is the only coach to take UT to the Elite Eight. He also shares the same winning percentage with Jerry Green. That's why it's ludicrous to start acting as if he's some god.

Wasn't necc referring to you, but if you think noone has defended him, then you are beyond reasoning with. You obviously haven't read the scores of posts from people who said they didn't care, everyone does it, winning is all that matters. You are flat wrong. Plenty of people defend it. Also, Bruce Pearl didn't put UT bball on the map, went to Sweet 16 5 yrs before he came. Not exactly the 50's and 60's. UT also has had 3 of the best players ever in this conference, all before Pearl, and the best 3 pt shooter in history of the conference, thanks to Buzz Peterson.

You want to compare the program Green inherited to the one Pearl got? You are beyond help there, end of discussion.

Again it's a mischaracterization. Few fans are defending him cheating.

Good point. Pearl just inherited an elite defender and great shooter in Smith, one of the best shooters in NCAA history in Lofton, and Derrick Rose's backup with the Chicago Bulls. How terrible.

Also funny you say he put bball on the map because Pearl spent first few years chiding people who said that. One reason he was successful is that he honored UT bball history and dispelled the myth that UT didn't have bball history. As a season ticket holder, I saw many former Vols honored at games. Pearl was outspoken in saying UT had bball history, just because you either weren't at the games before Pearl or don't recall, doesn't make it less true.

Bull. And did you just say Green inherited better situation than Pearl? Pearl had 2 of conference's best shooters when he arrived! Pearl had an AD that was supportive, Pearl had boosters give $ for facilities. Good grief. Bruce Pearl has had better situation than any UT bball coach ever. You think Pratt Pavilion was built for Pat Summitt?

To me it comes down to this, we are firing the best men's basketball coach in UT history because he had an illegal barbecue in his house for some players that he asked to keep quiet and then lied about the event to the NCAA. Yes it was wrong and a major violation.

Should he be given a second chance to continue as coach and redeem himself? IMO yes.

Doesn't change the fact that Pearl did more in the previous 5 seasons then UT basketball had accomplished in the previous 30 seasons. Given the expanded tournament is relatively new.
Talking about how great your basketball program was in the 50' and 60's and earlier, if you go back far enough Harvard and Yale had a great football program but it's not relevant now.

Uh, we're not talking about the 50s and 60s and earlier. We're talking about the 60s and the 70s and half of the 80s. And then we hired Doug Dickey, who didn't even bother to hide his indifference to basketball.

I wouldn't argue that Pearl's run hasn't the best five-year period in UT basketball history. But success is not the anomaly for UT basketball. The Dickey years were.

Haha! But Green had Charles Hathaway!

Pearl lost to graduation the leading scorer and leading rebounder on a team that finished with a losing record. The team Green inherited had lots of young talent.

The only decent player on Pearl's roster was Lofton who Kentucky somehow didn't offer and gifted to UT.

To me it comes down to you are getting your argument destroyed by facts and now backtracking by simplifying the matter. I am still amazed you said many people on here haven't defended Pearl's actions

Wow! You should google CJ Watson and JuJuan Smith. Major Wingate wasn't horrible. Whatever happed to Green's boys. My goodness I can't believe the things you post. It just gets worse. And Lofton not getting D1 offer doesn't make him less of great player, Rick Pitino sure was wanting him to transfer to Louisville when Buzz left

Bet you can't name Green's boys without searching. Tony Harris, Torrie Harris, Hathaway, Del Baker, Victor, CJ Black, to name a few. An all star lineup. Brandon Wharton was decent

Is this really serious?

Sadly, seems he is. Bet he is googling other players now. People like this just defeat themselves. Losing the top rebounder and scorer from a losing team is evidence for Pearl not having talent? What!?

Why do you think Green got fired? He got fired because the young team he inherited that should have been a great team by their senior season that went deep into the NCAA instead got eliminated in the first round.

The only player that had done anything in a UT uniform before Pearl became coach was Lofton. Watson developed under Pearl so did Lofton, though he played great as a freshmen and thats why I mentioned him. The two leading scorers on that team and the leading rebounder graduated. It was a complete rebuilding job Pearl inherited.

They weren't that good in the 70's and 80's. Go look at the ncaa appearances post and how far they went in the tournament during that time.
