I've been critcal of this hire and been very cricital of Hart and Cheek. But one thing I've noticed about Coach Jones is that he's a very confident individual. If you notice he has been promising National Championships, SEC championships in his presser and in the media, twitter, etc. He's talking about championships here. Which is quite the opposite of the former coach Dooley who at times was very bleak. It was always It's a process, or year 0, year 1. I understand he was dealt a tougher situation. But he never refered UT as a championship caliber program.

In fact, the only time I heard Dooley positive about the team was the beginning of the 2012 season where he said "you won't have UT to kick around anymore." Dooley seemed content with mediocre results and thats why he was let go.

But I do love the fact that Butch Jones is setting the bar high here. (as it should be) We should be competing for championships year in and out and Butch Jones is right in that we have the best facitilies, the best stadium, best fanbase, why should'nt we be getting championships.

The difference is that Jones is a winner. The only question is, can he win at this level? We'll see.

Dooley didn't promise much of anything and was making "Year Zero" excuses almost immediately, because deep down he knew he was what his record said he was.

I don't think dooley was an idiot though. He knew when he came here that we had a depth problem. What got him fired was not on the offensive side of the ball, however, bringing in Sal Sunseri to run the defense did.

I think one of the major differences is that Jones can recruit where Dooley lacked a bit in. And if you can't recruit, you can't win.

I agree with the OP about the attitude, but we'll see if he can deliver. I'd imagine as a player, you'd be more likely to play lights out for someone like Jones than someone like Dooley, who was constantly saying things like "we just aren't a very good team right now."

You polish a turd and start telling it that it is the best damn turd alive guess what it? It starts to believe it and no longer is a turd. Our military does it everyday of the week with new recruits.

One of the many reasons I couldn't stand Dooley was because he wasn't aggressive enough. Jones is always firing up his team no matter who they are playing and he's constantly making sure everyone is doing their job on and off the field. I hardly ever saw Dooley yell and bring energy to the sideline. Jones is doing it all the time and the players will love that kind of a coach. I'm excited to see something different for a change!

I agree. I tend to think that Dooley was trying to pass himself off like a Saban-esque type of coach when in reality he was anything but Saban. Dooley failed at a lot of different things here in a lot of different ways--ultimately he never won here--didn't even get the token "here's the payoff win that signals we are on the right track." I think, so far, Butch has been refreshing in a lot of ways. One thing he's already done is bring the coaches he's comfortable with and not made some unusual staff choice for the sake of making a change. Imagine that: Bringing the guys you've won with, relied on, despite their SEC/Tennessee affiliation--that's blasphemy to a lot of people on this board. NOT SAYING THAT IT MEANS WE WIN. I think it's making and ensuring the moves that could payoff short term and perhaps long term.

a winner wins no matter what level they are on

I coached my niece's soccer team to an undefeated season and three straight tournament championships. If made the coach for the national team, I'd have no idea what I'm doing. Heck, if made the coach for a high school team, there would still be a steep learning curve.

It's not just that the players are better, the coaching is better as well. The schemes are better, the adjustments are better. I'm all for giving the guy a chance. You can only beat who you play, but this statement gets thrown around a lot, and it's certainly not true.

1) Why the animosity for Dooley? There were a lot of things that were out of his control here. He did a great job with what he was given. Our irrational fanbase will never see that or give him credit for leaving this program in much better shape than he found it.

2) What makes you so confident about Jones?

3) Why do you care what they "talk" about? Some of the best coaches ever in any sport hated the media.

Carry on.

Not sure what channel you're watching. Dooley did a horrible job on all fronts. Not sure how you can make a comment on how he left the program in much better shape. Mind boggling.
