Dooley did more for this program than Kiffin or Fulmer did in the previous decade.
He made one horrendous mistake with the DC hire this season. Although Sal might have been a good DC if he had a couple years to get things the way he wanted them.
He made lots of tremendous mistakes. Totally ignored in-state recruiting, ignored and marginalized past players, couldn't consistently get the right number of players on the field, compared us to the Germans in WW2, took timeouts when the other team was in disarray on the field, didn't take timeouts to give us a chance to win against Mossouri at the end, etc., etc.
I saw time and again this year where he fouled up at the most basic of things that most middle school coaches understand. Quite possibly the most inept coach ever and I am not trying to exaggerate.
Win/Loss records don't tell the whole story, but Dooley was in way over his head.
No way could I handle an SEC football team so maybe I am unqualified to make this statement, BUT the team always seemed to be lacking on game day.
They never seemed to beleive that they could win the big one and as a consequence they didn't. The coaching staff always seemed to be in disarray on game day as well. In my opinion it was pretty blantant by the poor time outs, consistent bad play calling.
Why did we need a beast package? We should have a running back that we can trust to run on third and 1 with 1 yard to go. We apparently didn't seems to be a recruiting problem or problem with the Running backs coach, OR the head coach/ O Coordinator didn't believe we could do it. Or with the OLine but we had one of the best Olines in the country.
It seems to me that the coorelation that the coaches didn't believe in the players and the players didn't seem to believe in the coaches caused all kinds of game day problems.
From what I see Coach Jones really believes in the players, and his system. He believes in Tennessee and the greatness we can be.
When was the last time you heard something positive from Coach Dooley?
