The DNC convention thread -- all things convention go here

Eh?

Between the late 1800’s and 2008 the Supreme Court didn’t incorporate the second amendment against the states except with respect to militia service.

In 2008, they adopted a broader interpretation of the second amendment and in McDonald they incorporated that interpretation to the states.

The Supreme Court has been on a recent trend of expanding second amendment protections. There was no imminent second amendment rollback from the Supreme Court.

Frickin lawyers .. leave my Rights alone ! 👀

Here's your "eh?"...

In the McDonald case, Chicago attempted to take away an American citizen's right to own/possess a handgun. The Supreme Court properly decided that no, the 2nd Amendment says you can't do that. If Chicago can take away your guns, any municipality can. We don't have a Constitutional right to bear arms if a city can tell you no, you can't.
Repeating the same thing doesn’t make it correct.

Between 1875 and 2010, Chicago and the District of Columbia absolutely had the ability to restrict Gun ownership, because the second amendment wasn’t incorporated to the states and didn’t have much effect except with respect to the “well-regulated militia“ that’s set out in the body of the amendment.

In 2008, SCOTUS held that 2A applies to gun ownership for “traditionally lawful purposes,” such as home defense.

Afterwards, there was still a question of whether that applied to the states. McDonald incorporated that rule to the states.

You’re acting like there’s some long-standing recognition of the 2A that would have been gone but for Trump. For your narrative to be correct, the Heller rule would have had to have been universal since long before 2008 and be under recent threat from the Court. It wasn’t and it isn’t.

It’s the opposite. The trend since 2008 has been in favor of massive expansion of 2A by the Court.

The Supreme Court isn’t Congress where a particular issue tilts the other way as soon as you form a majority coalition on that issue. Look at the 2020 abortion case, for example.

Since Kavanaugh joined the court, SCOTUS has punted on 2A issues involving restrictions outside the home.

I'm a gun owner who is paying attention. The NRA is not the protector they claim to be

He's done more damage than his "gun grabbing" predecessor
Led by Wayne LaPierre, the NRA is mostly in the business of self-enrichment now. Protecting the rights of gun owners is nothing more than a front for their main purpose - bilking donors for their own personal profit. Republicans in Congress won't speak out against them, because they fear a backlash from voters who would interpret criticism of the NRA as an attack on the 2nd Amendment. This irrational fear and cowardice from the right has allowed corruption to thrive inside of that organization.

Couple of issues here:

15) The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) has been gutted, but it was never formally repealed. The Republicans even failed at that. Remember McCain's famous thumbs down?

17) Every American President since Eisehhower has shown support for Israel. Per The National Jewish Council, Israel received $20.5 billion in foreign military financing during Obama's presidency. Obama also became the first president to approve the sale of "bunker buster bombs" to Israel. During Obama's presidency the U.S. and Israel participated in the largest joint military exercise ever to be held between the two countries (Austere Challenge 12). This is nothing special to Trump,

The reason Obamacare wasn't repealed was because of the filibuster rule in the Senate. Republicans didn't have the votes to override this.

As for #17, Dems were clearly against our moving the embassy to Jerusalem.

Ask Bibi to compare Obama and Trump. You'll get an earful. He'll not say that the two Presidents are equivalent:

For Obama and Netanyahu, a Final Clash After Years of Conflict

Netanyahu says Trump is "the greatest friend" that Israel has ever had in the White House

What guns ? If it wasn’t for the lawyers the police wouldn’t be coming for anything . You’ll lose this little debate by default every single time . 😂
You can’t have statutory restrictions on gun ownership without lawyers? Do tell.

You got it twisted. You can’t have statutory restrictions on gun ownership because of lawyers. You’re welcome.

That's not surprising, Netanyahu is just as corrupt as Trump. Obama's record on support for Israel is stronger than most people realize. It has been greatly distorted by the right.

While I understand you defending your profession and agree lawyers have played an integral part of forming this great nation, you have to also understand there are more than a few that have earned the disdain people harbor towards them.

You have it twisted . I don’t need lawyers to determine what they believe I have , shouldn’t have , need or don’t need . The never ending backdoor runs from attorneys trying to F people over is why there are so many politician / lawyer / used cars salesmen jokes grouped together. Commonality. There isn’t a required license, permit or safety course I have, or had to have that wasn’t cause by an attorney . I drive a truck for a living , ive had a divorce, I own firearms ( maybe - maybe not ) , you calling me a dumbass as you are explaining the worth of attorneys to me is amusing to say the least . 😊

We don't need as many lawyers as we have... that's for damn sure. They don't produce anything. For the most part, they just add more paperwork for the rest of us.

I’m not “defending my profession.” Nobody goes through law school and comes out without knowing there are sneaky, conniving douchebags and dumbasses who practice law. I’ve posted on here probably a dozen times that I understand why people don’t like lawyers, that the profession needs tougher sanctions or needs to stop pretending to be better, and that much of the hate is justified. My disdain for bad lawyers is probably 100 times anybody else’s because I actually have to deal with them.

That doesn’t mean I have to let it slide when someone makes a nonsensical posts that include the word “lawyer.”

You had me agreeing right up until the end . You just spent an entire post talking about how bad “lawyers “can be and why people see them that way .. then decided my post was nonsensical. Smh . It’s almost .. dare I say it ... “ lawyer speak”

Continuing to push this farcical idea that you can’t have government without lawyers is just validating the insult, at this point. Fix your premise and try again without the wilty, moldy word salad, if possible.

Or I mean if you’re going to make a fool of yourself blaming all the world’s ills on lawyers, go big or go home.

World hunger? Stupid lawyers.
Failure to colonize Mars? Damn lawyers.

Agree, now change out "police officer" for "lawyer"

I don’t blame all the worlds problems on attorneys. I did go big when I went one ( you ) and listened straight from the horses mouth about how sh!tty they are . I believe you . I never said we could have a government without you mules , my original post said to leave my rights alone . You got pissy and wanted me to know that I wouldn’t have any without attorneys. Sac up and toughen up . Like I said , I’m a southern white boy that’s a truck driver . If I can take the heat from that you can suck it up and take the heat from your chosen profession . Counselor. 😊
