1. Welcome back, Wayne. Tonight's performance is what this team needs out of Chism to be a factor in March.
2. Loved the matchup zone. This team's length makes it a useful change of pace defense.
3. Brian Williams has to be more aggressive in close. He's just too hesitant.
4. The fact Josh Tabb didn't hesitate to take the biggest shot of the game shows how far he's come offensively. Last year, he passes that ball right back out top.
5. Another solid night from Bobby Maze. He's doing a nice job of making my reservations about him look unfounded.
6. Renaldo Woolridge is certainly fearless offensively. It would be nice to see him attack the rim more often.
7. I don't know how the Hell Mike Ragsdale ended up in the front row behind Nessler and Dykes, but I'm sure the Knox County taxpayer footed the bill somehow.
8. Buzz Williams will be fired within four years. By then, he will have crashed Marquette into the South Florida/St. John's nether regions of the Big East.
9. Tennessee's trips to Nashville continue to draw underwhelming crowds. I continue to think that annual trip is a waste of time.
10. Wesley Matthews is going to be a better pro than his dad. My guess is that he has the best NBA career of anyone on the floor tonight.

As poorly as we defend the perimeter in the man, we should go to the matchup and learn to rebound out of it. We'd be better served by our length and probably stay out of foul trouble better. Louisville murdered us with it last year.

Yeah thank goodness Marquette cooled off from 3. So many open shots. At one point on an in bounds play I think they had 3 people open from downtown... 2 at least I know and they were in the same spot in the corner.

I think there's a good 14k. It's a good thing. Gives fans that don't live in Knoxville a chance to see their team play.

To be fair, Murray State and Western aren't super exciting draws. Put UT vs. Memphis in Nashville, and I'm fairly sure it would sell out.

hat, still see UT as 3rd in the East?
I think Tennessee, Florida, and Kentucky are likely to end up within a game of each other at the end of the year. Whoever does the best job of avoiding losses to the dreck at the bottom of the league will win the division.

If it takes the best game on the schedule we definitely don't need to play in Nashville. Tonight's game should have been good enough for fans in middle TN.

Do you think Florida's lack of a strong non conference schedule will hurt them this year as it did last year?

Can't disagree with any of that, Hat. I'll add this much: if J.P. Prince is healthy and plays his usual minutes, UT wins this game by 20+. Would have been a great matchup for him, I think.

Why do you think Maze seems so reluctant to get more involved in the offense? He's quick, he's got a decent shot, he can get to the rim and is an above-average free throw shooter if he gets fouled, and he's shown he can knock down a 3 ball if left open. If he makes his presence felt by taking more aggressive lanes to the rim, that should open up more opportunities for Chism, Williams and Tyler down low, I would think, if he gets shut off. I love the assist-turnover ratio, but as I see it, with Hopson and Tatum still young and erratic, and Prince gimpy, we need Maze as more of a scorer, less of a pass-first-shoot-second guy.

I think he's being overly deferential to ensure he fits in with his teammates. He got a rap, fairly I think, for being selfish and difficult at OU. It certainly appears he has matured and is proving his critics, myself included, wrong. Once he feels he's established himself as a good teammate, I'd expect him to be more forceful offensively.

I've been there the last two years and there were a lot more fans this year than last. That being said, they could definitely draw more.

I heard last week that ticket sales weren't what they had hoped for. Vol basketball in middle tennessee just isn't a big draw. You get a mixed bag here in nashville. Vandy fans, titans fans, vol fans are here, but i didn't expect a big turnout anyway. They do it more for exposure anyway, it works. Playing in nashville isn't a waste of time from that stance.

I actually could have gone to the game free but had second thoughts of going after they played so poor against Temple. Same thing with traveling to Knoxville during football season when they performance was lackluster. It doesn't help Vandy students being on break as far as overall attendance goes either.Maybe Nashville isn't such a good venue.

Ok hat don't flame me for this question. I may be showing my bb ignorance!Considering the lack of depth at the point and no clear cut option behind Maze, wouldn't Tyler be the better option? He basically plays point forward now.

If Tabb weren't showing signs of improvement at the point, I think Bruce would be planning on doing exactly what you said.

I like Tabb and his toughness but when he is on the offensive end its basically four on five. Hopefully he gained some confidence with his stroke last night. Against the better teams and come tourney time I think our point needs to put some fear in the opponent. That is why I asked this question. I also agree Maze needs to open it up more.

I haven't been able to catch many games this year but from the few I have seen this team looks really helter skelter when one or more of our younger players is on the court. I see some improvement from our younger players but too often they look to rush the shot instead of looking for a higher percentage look. How long before these young guys begin to settle down a little?
