The economy post-Covid

They certainly are. You will not see a return to pre-COVID society until there is a vaccine.

BTW, I was speaking to one poster in particular who wants the economy to reopen but is whining about taking a vaccine.
We have short memories. We love our comfort and convenience. After Memorial the adherents of covid precautions will wane precipitously.

Why would the UAW cancel their contracts with the automakers? Cars aren't selling and the UAW has nothing to do with that.

The manufactors have binding agreements with the uaw and their distributors that they will manufacture a certain amount of product in uaw plants no matter what unless a clause is triggered that allows the manufactures to stop.

This is what we were discussing.....there is debate on whether this would trigger the clause or not.....and no its not certain it would.

You’re right, you’re employer can’t force you to take a vaccine. They can also not employ you.

If I was 18-25 or in the military , that might worry me . It doesn’t at all now . I could probably scratch around and pick up aluminum cans or something . Lol

This is NOT a thread about Trump or any current politician or election. This is about the long term nature of the economy once the Covid situation is over.

The predictions are dire. Goldman Sachs is forecasting peak unemployment to reach 25 % very soon. I heard on CNBC this morning that some economists are forecasting that about 40 % of the jobs lost due to the virus will not come back, ever. Not to say there will not be jobs or businesses that replace them. But, a lot of people who have lost their jobs are not going to be called back to those particular jobs.

A lot of these are bottom rung jobs. Restaurants, hospitality, basic service jobs. So they can be replaced.

What do you think is the long term nature of what's going to happen with the economy in terms of structure? Maybe less restaurants and hotels, resorts? People will be reluctant to go to them, anyway. Even when we have a vaccine this is going to resonate for awhile. Are we going to have chronic unemployment to deal with for a decade-plus? Like 10 %?

The epitome of a @lawgator1 post.
