The Endzone Garden Thread

I’ve had bucks rubbing on my blueberries bushes. They broke limbs off them scratched the ground in front of them. I seen today where they broke over the okra stalks and rubbed all over them.
Can't say I've ever had an issue with them rubbing blueberries. My first round that I put out 2 apple trees, they got polished good.

It appears that they tried to give every nook and cranny their own climate.
It has gotten warmer. OTOH it got down to 0 last winter in Nashville.
According to nasa the planet has “wobbled” 3deg on its axis. That has changed a lot of things. For example tornado alley which used to hit the Athens Alabama area hard is now kicking the crap out of Ringgold Georgia just south of Chattanooga. I’ve lived north of Chattanooga for 45 years and tornadoes were rare till the last 5 years or so. Now there’s 2-3 a year.

Yeah, they greatly increased the number of weather stations for data sources.

There are a ton of orchards around here, especially apples, and the farmers are really sweating whether they'll get enough cold days in winter to set blossom. They're starting to talk about replanting hundred-year-old orchards with low-chill varieties.

I once saw an image of a USDA heat chart, the equivalent of the zone chart we now have, but with average highs, instead of average lows. THAT'S a chart that I think would be far more useful, especially those who grow a lot of annuals (vegetables, flowers, etc.)

@SlipKidVol
Do you do anything to protect your banana trees for the winter?
Also @SlipKidVol What variety banana and where do you live

Slice...Was just researching bananas last week as i'd like to have one. There is a Philipine variety (Lakotan sp?) that is supoosedly one of the best eats in banana existence. Can't say I recall exactly, but spent 2 summers there in the day and had some of hte best bananas (and fruit in general) I've ever eaten. THat variety is a zone 8-11 so you'd have to winterize it up here in 7a. What I saw on winterizing bananas is wrapping a thick layer of straw (1+ inches) around the base up to the pom and holding it with mesh. Then a thick layer of mulch around the base.

Not a big deal if you only have one, but you can also dig it up and store it in Garage over winter. Knock excess dirt off and place base in bag. Water a little ever so often. A guy wth about 20 bananas did this every winter and replanted each spring. Crazy. Found all this on youtube.
