The Endzone Garden Thread

I looked up the fertilizer this guy sells, and the NPK is 2:1:1. It has lots of other micros in there, which is great, but that’s way too high a nitrogen ratio. No wonder the thing is so dang big.

I've made and frozen "tomato base" before, but, these past two years, I've just managed to eat/share my entire crop (and that's without Joe stealing a single mater :p).
Since I only had a hot-water canner at the time, I made a lot of salsa. One called for roasting the tomatoes, and holy cow, that was good!

Now we’ve added a pressure canner and a freezer in the basement, so I’m planning on putting up a lot more tomatoes this year, in one form or another. And I’ll start pulling out under-performing maters at Labor Day to make room for fall vegetables, so we should have plenty of green tomatoes for chow-chow.

Here you go:

Chow Chow Relish : Taste of Southern

This was the first thing either of us had ever put up in a Mason jar, and it was a great and reassuring guide to preserving (also a good recipe.) Hubs does all the pickling stuff, so he’s the chow-chow guy. He’ll probably go for some hotter ones next year, but everyone who has tried it has come back for more. Also hasn’t died, so that’s good.

Every night here like that. Ambien is my friend.
I’ve learned to stop reading news by 9:30 pm. Works wonders.

Now of course I just lie in bed and try to figure out where all these plants are going to go. But at least it’s productive brooding.
