Was it a ketchup farm?

well Exie, we close on the new place next week. I'm thinking about compost piles, card board and renting a sod cutter to make the patches. Also, thinking about landscaping timbers as edging. I figure you can add 8' sections and then start raising the beds as needed. Thoughts?
I’m thinking that you have a badass avi pic.

One more thought: supposedly, heavy cardboard and generous (6” or so) of soil on top of it will kill the grass, without having to cut it off first. Supposedly. That includes former pasture, as long as it doesn’t have Bermuda or crabgrass.

We chickened out and cut and flipped the sod, roots pointing up, before cardboarding previous times. Cutting off the sod will delay full fertility a bit, as it disrupts the existing life in the soil (mycorrhizae, earthworms, etc.), but it does recover after several months.

If you have a long-term plan to gradually expand garden space over the next few years, maybe do the sod cutting for most garden space this year, but set aside two beds for cardboard only, double layer to cover gaps in the cardboard. If it works out, you might be able to save some hassle in future years.

I can’t do this experiment due to my tiny urban yard, but I’m always happy to let others be guinea pigs. 🤪

That is an option. I wanted to get something started late this summer just to get somewhere to start composting. I'm thinking maybe 4ft wide beds by maybe 40' long to begin then like you say just plant cardboard in the expanding areas.

4x40? Goin’ big! 👍🏻

Are you considering going into market gardening? Farmer’s market, etc

LOL, I don't know, just throwing a number out there. I was thinking in terms of timbers.....1/2 timber X 5.
I was curious when you posted this, so I pulled out the calculator. Out of a 20x20 plot, 260 sq ft should be actual beds, so the equivalent of a 4x65 bed. That’s pretty much all I can stand. 🤪

I must have ~1000 daffodil bulbs, and I've given away 400+ to date. I have ~200 irises, too, and I've given away 50+ to date. I have 400+ paper white narcissus, and I've given away that many as well. Much of this bounty was on my property when I bought it. Some I brought with me from my former residence.

I have found a number of daffodil bulbs, apparently dug up by the squirrels. 🤬

Beautiful, I know! How big is your property?
