The Endzone Garden Thread

The chipmunks dug up my entire row of sunflower seeds. 🤬

I’ve started some more in seed cups. I want some sunflowers this year!

Mama cat brought a chipmunk to her kittens this morning. I won't have to worry about that one in particular.

Updates from The Farm:

-Chipmunk has been fully consumed.
-Bean tri-pods have been stood back up, and ready to brave the next storm...hopefully.
-2nd crop of corn seed went in.
-Two more rows of sunflowers went in.
-Kitchen cabinet remodel progressing.
-Still waiting on Dill, Parsley, Wild Thyme, and Cilantro to germinate. Firgured out mama cat milks kittens in concrete planter where two of those are seeded. Put cover on top.
-Time to set up tomato poles and start weaving.
-Garden is up and at that is it gonna grow stage. So, it should be exploding in the next couple weeks.
-Except lettuces and carrots. Still waiting on those to poke their heads up.

Seems late for lettuce? What kind.

Probably late. One is rocket arugula which will tolerate heat. One is little gem which looks like baby romain and is also very heat. tolerant. Third lettuce is called strawberry cabbage in merica. But, not a cabbage. The only one of hte 3 that is not a heat variety, but I have them on the shady end of the garden.

Even though I have a pretty long garden and a quite open space for it the north, east and west sides have immense tree lines about 20feet away on the west, and about 30ft away on the north and east. My garden gets direct unobstructed sun from about noon-4:30 pm or so.

Also noticed at lunch my eggplant hasn't popped up.

My neighbor gave me some Strawberry Spianch seed. Tiny seed. Had garlic flavor that we didn't care for so I turned it under. It's a weed.

He also gave me several heads of Romaine lettuce. We buy it year round, but even lettuce is better out of the garden.

This is the first year I've ever had difficulty getting basil to grow from seed, but I think it's because of these cool nights. I'm pretty sure basil likes soil temperature to be a little warmer than this.
Even in the pots if I dig down, that soil is still cool.
On the bright side, I started the Greek Oregano in nursery pots with plastic wrap and rubber bands in some dappled light, and they've about all germinated now and have the plastic removed.
The nurseries here this year have plenty of the Italian, but not much of the Greek.

Well, now we need/must know.
Wife and I went to see someone who was drunk and would forgetthe words to his songs. I'll have to ask her who it was when she returns. It coulda been Jerry Jeff Walker???

lol, sounds like my second-worst. Beach Boys in ?1973 in Durham or Chapel Hill. The (tour) drummer was so wasted that he fell off his stool right before the break. He did not reappear.

Wrecked on the walk thru .....let's say the game between ..... um, oru and tcu
1973 was about the time I left NC for a stint in purgatory, missed the NC scene. In Huntsville the best place for a good concert was Muscle Shoals or Florence
