The eternal QB debate (merged)

I guarantee anyone NS, can win, Lane Kiffin is keeping his promise to baby Crapton about the starting job, HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite possibly one of the dumbest things I've read on here...

Honest to goodness, if it's this painful and "sickening" for you to watch Tennessee football, then turn it off. There's no pleasing some people. Did you expect UT to go to the BCS this year? No matter what the circumstance, but anybody expecting Tennessee to beat Ohio 60-3 in ANY year is either drunk, or on some serious good drugs.

Crompton is trash, there's no doubt about that, but if Stephens can't beat JC in camp what makes you think he's better?

The only reason the JC is in the game is because he shows better in practice. We have known for some time now that JC is a better practice qb than at game time. He folds like a lawn chair under pressure. He's like that kid in the neighborhood yard game when amongst friends but couldn't step up in a city game. Stephens just isn't as good in practice but the game is a completely different story. I say throw him in and if he's at least as good as he is in practice then he'll be miles ahead of Crapton in the game.

Those two pick 6's he threw to ice the game against Wyoming just screamed composure.

I think it is obvious Kiffin is using this year as one big practice session...Stephens will never get to start for the big orange. He needs to get his transfer papers in order. If Kiffin had any idea of ever playing Stephens he would have done pulled the trigger. We would be better off running the triple option if Crompton is all we have.

Sure--crompton's terrible, but there's no other talent on the roster for kiffin to put in---thanks to phil fulmer, who got millions in buyout cash for nothing!

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.

Dumb.

Crompton is terrible but I don't get all those that say Kiffin has an agenda or doesnt care about this season. If Stephens is the best guy during practice and film study he will play. Stephens starting would not scare a recruit off because he only has 1 yr left.

Kiffin plays and starts the guys that do it Monday-Friday in practice. Crompton has improved over the last 3 games but unfortunately he is still pretty terrible. Stephens has to win the job in practice to get it on gameday barring an injury.

also, no. i know crompton is the easy guy to blame in most of our games, but the defense underperformed big time last night. the secondary was particularly bad. crompton was not the main reason ohio was in the game last night. true he had the high tipped ball that resulted in the INT and the fumble. but most of the problems were credited to the D and the special teams blunder you mentioned

tennessee should have held ohio to around 10 points at the most instead of giving up 23

Crompton also has a better grasp of the playbook and alignments than Stephens...they are so many things behind the scenes that people are blind too. Im sure Kiffin and Co are grooming and preparing Stephens behind the scenes because when the move takes place its him for the long haul. It is not like they are not working with him.

We are rebuilding. We're getting the talent in that the coaching staff needs, but we have to make do with what Fulmer left us.

he was a 4 or 5 star recruit out of HS, we can thank that Fulmer Development Process for what we see today

yea ummmmm... your about as lame as crompton for calling for kiffins head....

HELLO WE LOST TO WYOMING LAST YEAR!!!! We played Florida very tough and we lost to UCLA which isnt really a bad team.... Ohio isnt a bad team either......

YES i agree that crompton shouldnt be a starting QB but its not CLK's fault that there wasnt any QB's recruited the past two year before he got here.....

Personally I would love to see Stephens in the game just so it will make us feel better.... If he were to prove The coaches wrong GREAT!!!

But obviously the QB coaches OC and CLK dont think he has what it takes either

LAY OFF OF KIFFIN!!! Like matrosscbc said...... HE IS 4 GAMES IN and on track to a better record then the past two years under "THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION" LOL!!!!

...calling for his head....lol....4th best recruiting inthe county...he's four games in....LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!:birgits_giggle:

Yes 4th best in recruiting, but that does not mean he is making a good choice keeping jc in the gme. Last night they running game was hitting hard. Then he would call a pass play and would kill scoring drives. I'm affraid he is too proud to admit he is wrong with keeping jc in the game. Jc has killed the offense to many times. It's time to let NS loose the starting position. What's the worse that could happen?

If anyone thinks this staff is not in it to win games I suggest you find a new team.
The last comment should tell anyone with a brain that based on all the coaches on this staff that JC gives us the best option at QB.
Chaney is every bit proven and more so then Cutcliffe is, ever see Cut in the NFL?
We are extremely thin of D1 talent at alot of the positions on both sides of the ball. Offense more then Defense.
Our QB's on roster are D2 level QB's change them out will only destroy what confidence the one who is deemed to be best has and then we are taking 2 steps back toward the latter part of our season.
Do I wish we had better QB play...well duh but I am also smart enough to know that the coaches we have has evaluated the QB's and the best of 2 evils has been selected.
Any fan that thinks if they cry or raise enough hell that the outcome of the QB should change is a fan we don't need.
Any coach that lets fans opinions dictate who plays is a coach I no longer want for my team.

I believe Kiffin has an ego problem. He's decided that Crompton is his QB, no matter what. Any "normal" coach would have pulled Crompton. If Kiffin is worried about Crompton's confidence level, it's too late.

That's probably why after watching Crompton throw about 14 picks against UCLA Kiffin accepted responsibility for the loss. What an ego.

Lose with or without Crompton. I like those options.
