The eternal QB debate (merged)

I believe Kiffin has an ego problem. He's decided that Crompton is his QB, no matter what. Any "normal" coach would have pulled Crompton. If Kiffin is worried about Crompton's confidence level, it's too late.

Not an ego problem just hard headed. :matrix:

"The last comment should tell anyone with a brain that based on all the coaches on this staff that JC gives us the best option at QB".

Lose with or without Crompton. I like those options.

Have you been to the spring and fall practices and worked with the QB's 1 on 1? Didn't think so

Your just a fan like the rest of us that wants to see our team get back to winning games.

I want better QB play but I realize that is not going to happen this year and have accepted it.

You ask what do we have to lose at this point? well NS comes in and is worse and we put JC back in and he reverted back then we are truly screwed.

You may think...what if NS is better? Do you not think that all the coaches have sat down and discussed this each and every week and watched practices for a glimmer of hope that would tilt the scales toward NS and yet to see it.

crompton beats out stevens in practice, so by that token crompton > stevens

JC still sucks. plus he does not get blitzed in practise. I just want to know what harm would it be to put in NS. Its not like we can say, we could have won if JC was playing. We all now the answer to that comment. NS will be here next year, and could be the starter. How do we know JC is not starting because he is a senior?

Doug Matthews was on this morning. Without putting words in his mouth I will try to summarize.

He said there is no disputing that Crompton is terrible and won't get better. Everyone knows the QB situtation is a complete disaster right now.

He also said that if the coach had not made a move for NS by now, he must be terrible. Said there was no reason for him not to yank Crompton right now other than Stephens being worse.

He said NS had no chance of starting next year and next years starter would be Bray or an unnamed JC transfer.

My question is how many balls were dropped last night in the game??? I know of 4 or 5 balls that were dropped by our receivers. That means Crompton would have been 22 of 34 instead of 17 for 34 and at least 30-40 more yards which would have given him about 260 for the game. We all know Crompton isn't great. Hell I remember a lot of people not liking some of the old QB's we've had in the past, but lets face it right now we don't have a proven QB right now and the staff is doing what is best for the team by sticking with Crompton.

1) Then we will be looking at another very long year.

2) Because of all the freshmen starting.

How did all the QB changes work out for last year's team?

With all the people starting threads about QB play it is like the board has come down with a bad case of "Whine Flu"

The whine flu is supposed to be Florida's problem, not ours. Come on now, people. Seriously. We're stuck with JC this year, and then we might have a respectable QB next year if Bray starts.

That means nothing at this point. Some are starting because of injurys. I think some people just want to keep JC in the game. Are you scared NS will actually be good? I know he is not the best in UT history, but he is not the worst. He deserves a chance just like JC deserved the chance. Winning in practise does not win games, I know "DUH". Regardless who we get next year as a freshman QB does not mean he will start, no matter how good he was in high school. Jc was good in high school too.

As far as I know, no one on this board believes Crompton is even a serviceable quarterback. Two staffs have now evaluated him as superior to NS and NS had some experience last year in games by which we might evaluate his ability. Unfortunately, he has not proven himself to have better skills or decision making abilities than the incumbent starter. He doesn't "deserve" a chance if he hasn't done anything to deserve it.

1) Wrong, We had 5 freshmen starting in game 1, the majority started because they were the best.

2) Nonsensical

3) How do you know that he is not the worst we have now?

4) He has had every chance and has failed to impress 2 different staffs.

Come on man, you know posters are smarter than our coaches

I have no hangover, OHIO blows, they should have never scored more than 10 points last night, but yet, playing an inferior team Crapton is still throwing picks because he can't get his head out of ass and stop throwing into damn thick coverage

OU's top 3 Qbs are as good or better than any we have on our roster, and we had what was essentially our 2nd team D on the field.

OU is a decent team, and our team got the win over them by more than one score.

You need to get your head out of your a**, take the win, and move on.

Why does he deserve a chance? Ignoring for the moment the fact that he has already had a chance and will most certainly have another this spring, why would we need to give an opportunity to a guy who the coaches obviously believe isn't as good as the guy on the field?

Just because our starter is struggling doesn't mean the guy on the bench is better. The entire conversation is born, I believe, out of some vindictive frustration that results in a search for someone to blame, and the guy with the ball and porn stache is an easy target now that our ex-coach is banished to the bowels of Stokely.

UT football isn't all that good right now. Our quarterback situation is a mess. I do, however, believe that Kiffin & Co. have, and will, put the guys on the field that give the team the best chance to win. Thankfully, they are much better qualified to decide who those guys are than you (or me.) The problem isn't that we are playing one guy over the other; the problem is that neither of the two guys they have as options is particularly appealling.

Given time, that will change, but that is reality today.

Come on dude it was WKU.

You can ride the JC train all you want. How do you know he is not loyal to seniors like Fulmer was, it's not going to be proven one way or the other. I don't like JC never will. I will always love and support my team wins or not. We will have these conversations no matter who is behind center. It makes this place fun.:dance2:

I'm kinda surprised at how much bashing people are giving Crompton after this game. I just got done watching it again on ESPN 360 and thought he played very well in the 1st half. The announcers were right when they said that he should have had at least 75 more yards if it weren't for dropped passes. He also led us on an impressive 30 second drive right before halftime to get some points. I also think it is obvious that he feels most comfortable with Moore and Warren out there.

Against Ohio, check his stats in the important games
