The eternal QB debate (merged)

CLK could have run the ball last night 4 out of 5 plays, and we win 30-10. Or so.
Had a the choice of trying to JC on track, or running it 60 times, and he chose the first. Call it right, call it wrong, call it whatever you want. That is what he did. He realizes that our passing game must reach a certain level (which does not mean Manning level) for us to compete with Bama, and have a chance to beat the other teams on our schedule. You could disagree with that plan for the Ohio game, and you would not get an argument out of me. But I would not disagree with his attempt at getting JC some looks. I personally think that CLK is trying to do something, that is not gonna happen this year, with this personel (including NS). Do I fault him for trying? Not really.

Everyone hear wants to see 21-33, for 240 yrds. and 2 tds.

With this particular team, I would like to see. 18 to 20 pass attempts, and about 45 to 50 runs. With less mistakes. That would put us in position to win against AU, UGA, USCjr, UK, Vandy...

We would have to be able to pass it better to beat Bama. Better, as in a lot better than we have shown.

Why does he deserve a chance? Ignoring for the moment the fact that he has already had a chance and will most certainly have another this spring, why would we need to give an opportunity to a guy who the coaches obviously believe isn't as good as the guy on the field?

Just because our starter is struggling doesn't mean the guy on the bench is better. The entire conversation is born, I believe, out of some vindictive frustration that results in a search for someone to blame, and the guy with the ball and porn stache is an easy target now that our ex-coach is banished to the bowels of Stokely.

UT football isn't all that good right now. Our quarterback situation is a mess. I do, however, believe that Kiffin & Co. have, and will, put the guys on the field that give the team the best chance to win. Thankfully, they are much better qualified to decide who those guys are than you (or me.) The problem isn't that we are playing one guy over the other; the problem is that neither of the two guys they have as options is particularly appealling.

Given time, that will change, but that is reality today.

Good point, but everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves outside of practice. Manning was not win the starting position in practice, but he turned out to be a pretty good QB  If NS gets his chance and shows he does suck on the field, this year cant go off last year or JC would be sitting too. Then all questions would be answered. It is going to be hard from this point on to see if he can play in the game.

I know but the fact that he completely stunk it up in the important games is why people are bashing him

I don't understand why people are bashing him for THIS game, not overall. People are bashing him for his play in THIS game, and to me it seems like he played a decent game.

what happened to the 3rd string qb? Lamaison, wasn't it? I understand that he hasn't had much time to learn the system, but as I understand it he didn't throw too many int.s in JC. If he doesn't get shook under pressure and is fairly accurate, why not give him a try if Stephens isn't any better than JC? Heck, I don't see anybody being much worse. There's a big difference in missing the receiver and throwing it into the wrong position where the db's can get their hands on it. Admittedly, the recievers aren't getting that little shove off to separate from the db's, which is just bringing JC's confidence level down with every pass he throws that he knows should have been caught. This is where the coaching comes in. They are the ones that should teach them how to get that separation that's needed. This should be something that recievers learn in jv football. That is where CPF failed by recruiting receivers that didn't know how to achieve separation from db's. Any thoughts?
GO VOLS!!

he did and he quit after being put on the bench. Maybe he just couldn't handle being worse than JC. I know it would shake my confidence too

OK then does Crompton just not have the talent or has he been poorly coached? He was rated fairly high out of HS so why has he been sooooooo bad. I mean not every kid turns out to be great but he is down right awful.

Ut is playing their best quarterback.

We know We know. It is siad he is the best in all the threads. He rocks the ints, not like Nick the Pick. We can say he sucks until were blue in the face, he will always start. Did he red shirts at all, I mean if we are lucky he did so we can have him next year

What might you use to support this point? Historical precedent exists here. How do you refute that?

Easy BPV, big words confuse him.

Let me help:

How can ye be so shure?

Ye know NS played last year doanchee?

Wachee gotta say about at?

Some people try to rationalize that Crompton has had some many different coordinators/schemes while he has been here and that lack of consistency has hurt him. But, you know what else that means to me... He's had that many coaches and NO ONE has been able to fix his problems. Not one correction on his decision making, staring down receivers, etc. Just realize the guy SUCKS, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Give me Nick, who may have had some INT's last year that hurt us, but I know he played better in the games he played last year than JC. I cannot continue to deal with JC's mental deficiencies.

This is my take on it.

JC is a nut job and he is afraid to play because of our fans. I think this is why he practices so much better then he plays.I feel like he is under so much pressure to be the next Manning that he looks like a deer under center. I honestly believe that JC/NS are 50/50 though in playing terms. Nether one can separate themselves from the other. But being the armchair coach that I am, I would give the start to NS because I believe the fans will not boo him. The fans are so fed up with JC they will boo the first incompletion thrown by him. The fans will be so much more tolerant with NS. I believe NS will be a lot more calmer in the pocket then JC. thus taking away some Int/ fumbles that are going to cost us some games in the near future. But hey I am just a fan and I never played a down of football in my life. That is just my $.02 on our QB situation.

Honestly do not boo our team I don't care if you payed a $1000 ticket. This never ever comes out good. keep your armchair coaching tactics to yourself.

Anyone want to still say that BJ Coleman got a fair shake? This just proves that Lane never gave the kid a fair shake, Crompton is beyond awful. No way Stephens or Coleman could have been this bad.

this old and tired, troll

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.

I am very aware of this sites policy on name calling, so I will word this carefully.

I was talking earlier to a guy who said pretty much the same thing in the quoted post above. He was an idiot.

What team do you coach? You can have him.

Thank You.

Actually the whole VolNation isn't asking for a change. Just the idiots of VolNation which seem to be increasing in numbers every day.

We idiots can leave the sight if you like. Someone speaks thier mind and you all get offended. Free country but if you like we can leave the sight but we will always bleed orange and white you can't stop that. Stand Proud Idiots.

He looked sub par even in THIS game against a bad defense. He consistently threw high and behind our receivers, which is giong to get one of them serisously hurt having to go up and twist for balls. The overthrow to Teague was awful. The fumble 10 yards behind the LOS, which we got very lucky on, was awful. Sure he made a few decent throws, but a decent high school qb could go out there and make a FEW good throws against Ohio.
