The Fall Camp Thread

I would love to see Croom go nuts this season - but I consider him part of the crapshoot. North, Malone, Pearson, Jackson, and Pig I can all see having fantastic years.

I just don't believe Croom can make that big of a jump from what we've seen so far.

I don't really see Croom as part of the "crap shoot" because he's more of a known commodity than the guys further down the list. We know what Croom is capable of. Most of those other guys, not so much.

This has me excited.

Aaron Medley was an absolute machine in warmups. The freshman kicker hit 12 for 12 on field goals between 25 and 45 yards from various angles. The last of which was an absolute bomb from 45 yards that would have easily been good from 55-60

That is good news. It would be nice to have a young guy like Medley come in and enjoy some success early. I would love to not have to worry about that position for the next four years.

What's the count on newcomers who are expected to start? I'm thinking of 6-7 that come to mind.

Medley will be huge for us! Having such a strong leg and being as accurate as he is. I'd be willing to bet he will win a couple of big games for us this year!

This fires me up, too.

Butch Jones has a lot more players that look like SEC players in uniform. The difference in the size and athleticism of the younger players brought in by Butch Jones is clear and impressive. Some of them are raw though, so it will take some time for some of those guys to play like legit SEC players. Todd Kelly Jr., Cortez McDowell, the Berry Twins, Dillon Bates and Treyvon Paulk are just a few that have huge thighs for their size. The results of the weight program are evident in the players sooner than we’ve seen at UT in many years.

Drea Bowles looked very good in that video. People may have wrote him off as a bust too soon. He's only a RSo. He obviously has talent, maybe everything is finally clicking for him.

Let's hope. Although, man, that's really becoming a crowded position on the roster. I'm not complaining, though.

I'm listening to Butch's press conference after practice and it sounds like he keeps saying "Ethan Woof". :)

I give CP to Oregon and you would've watched him hoist the Heisman.

Sure, but he played for a losing team. If he's with bama in 2012 with the exact same numbers he's probably a finalist. No one from crap teams win heismans, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't utilized.

Except for Paul hornung when the downtown athletic club robbed Johnny Majors

Agree totally. Milton was a bust and Croom is a beast.

I hope Croom is great this year. Then again, I've never understood the hype around pig either - so maybe my expectations for our starting WRs is too high.

Does not surprise me to see north, Malone, Pearson as our starters so far in camp.

I think most people expect Worley to be the starter but IMO the sooner he shows CBJ that he is the man and locks up the job the better. A team needs one clear cut leader on offense. I saw quotes from Brian Hoyer, Cleveland Browns presumed starter, about how in the past he had taken a secondary leadership role in deference to the starter. When JW takes ownership if the starting QB role and everyone else sees it then the whole offense will follow him and the improvement overall will increase by leaps and bounds. There is something about having a strong leader that makes everyone else around them better. It sounds like this is happening and shouldn't be to long before CBJ gives JW the official nod.

Justin Worley is finally showing more commanding leadership skills. You could hear him from the sideline encouraging receivers. He also physically went to a number of teammates in-between drills to pat them on the shoulder pads and helmets. That’s a little more of what Butch Jones is looking for from his quarterback. I thought the starting job was Worley’s entering camp. I feel stronger about that after two practices. There is still a long way to go in fall practice, so we’ll see.

Are you serious about Pig? If so, then your comment is laughable! He is dynamic with the ball in his hands, and has made some great catches over the middle so far in his career. If utilized properly in this offense, he will eat! Listed starters in this offense are pretty much names on paper. He will get plenty of snaps in this offense, and you quickly forget that he did not practice in the spring, due to whatever reasons that we do not know.

Sounds about right, IMO.

On another note, great news about Medley. Sounds like we found us a kicker.
