The Fans Quit! again!

The only reason there are more than 40k fans in the stands at the start of the game is that we show up hoping that this will be the week where we finally turn the corner... If we weren't fans we wouldn't dawn the Orange and buy the tickets and make the pilgrimage....

If some of you want to turn the pilgrimage into martyrdom by staying in your seat after the writing on the wall says "this is not the week" then go for it... But don't think you get to throw rocks just because you choose to suffer more...

You can start to throw rocks at the fanbase when the fans quit showing up to start with because every ounce of optimism has been bled out... Just reminding you it's been 15 years since we won the SEC.... Neither or my kids are old enough to have seen it but they root for the Vols every Saturday just like I do... They just don't take losing to heart because that's all they have really seen us do in their lifetimes....

Think about that... Most of the students at UT were 6 or under in 1998... How much faith can you expect?

I was in college during the Majors years and was a young professional during the glory years of the program where Saturday Vol Football anchored some of my best memories.... Peyton Leading the band... The blocked extra point vs Auburn in 97 when Peyton led us back from being down in the SECCG... The Ark fumble.... Everytime Spurrier threw down his Visor on the FLORIDA not USCjr sideline... Peerless streaking down the sideline with JOHN WARD counting down the yard markers!!!!!

The younger fans and recruits have no idea about any of those things... every Saturday I hope that they will begin to see a glimpse... Most Saturdays I end up let down and am embarrassed in Knoxville once again....

Doesn't mean I won't be back next week with the same hope in the dawn-breaking occurring.....

I almost never leave a game early, but that was ridiculous. You can argue depth all you want but that shouldnt have an impact until the fourth quarter. depth or no depth, I expect us to be competitive, and at home!! If butch wants loyal fans, he needs to stop layin duds. we should absolutely always be competitive to start at home. 34 points to auburn? I'll stay for the whole game if the players would simply show up to begin with.

We as fans expect our Vols to give 110% the whole game but yet most will get up and leave as soon as they can. Either stay and give our team 110% or give your tickets to someone that will appreciate the chance to be there.

According to this the real fans are moochers that wait for free tickets from the ones who pay for theirs but may wish to leave early because the team blows.

I've gotten to the point where I post rarely on here...primarily because it's the same ole, same ole.

But...gotta take exception to this.

Personally, have season tix and have a 4.5 hour drive one way. Bought three extra tickets to yesterday's game as well so family could attend.

With a noon game, takes a hotel room and all the extras that go with travelling. It is an investment on my part.

When you're sitting in the stands watching the defense get gashed, listening to Aubie's fans (which were unusually a$$holish yesterday) cheer while their team was running through our D like they weren't there...leaving in the 4th by no means indicates I'm not a "true fan".

I still had almost five hours to get home.
Not sure how much time you invested in the game yesterday, but I had plenty.

Don't throw stones until you've been in everybody elses shoes, my friend.

I think we are all Equally fans, whether we go to games or stay home and watch the game on tv, like me. Nobody can claim they are a better fan for doing this or that. The only fans I don't like are the ones that jump ship, cheer for another team, then come back when the going is good.

Note- I live near the KY jelly border, if you buy, I will go to the the TN/KY game in KY.

You're preaching to the choir. My point was directed at those who sit on the couch or behind their computers and rant at fans who actually attend the games and don't stand enough, don't yell loud enough or don't stay long enough to suit those who don't bother to go at all. You buy the ticket; you buy the right to do whatever you want. I don't get this calling out other fans or telling them how to be a fan.

BTW, they'll be giving UK tickets away.

Sorry but I disagree with the OP. It's fans who pay money to go watch this team play. As such it is this staff and this team's responsibility to put a product on the field WORTH staying for and watching! The reality is if you suck and cannot remain competitive on the field for a full 4 quarters, it is not the fan's obligation to sit through and endure that crap! We're not the ones on scholarship and we are not the ones getting paid a king's ransom to coach this team! How dare you try and put this on the fans!

It was sad sitting in Neyland stadium as fans starting leaving in the 3rd quarter and by the early 4th quarter Auburn fans had taken over Neyland stadium.

What hurt even more with the fans leaving was all the high profile recruits in the house, Jackson, Sharpe, Malone, Lamin and etc., may not sit well with some recruits like Malone when your stadium gets taken over by another teams fans.

I know put a better product on the field blah blah blah, but unless your Alabama your not going to get away with paying recruits, ask Mo, so the only way to really put a better product on the field is recruiting better which I think we are but when prospects see our stadium emptying what do you believe they are thinking. Yes I know we got a commit but not a high profile commit.

The future of this program is recruiting and Jackson, Malone and Lamin could start from day 1, so I do not know why some people cant put in 4 hours at a home game. I know the excuses drove a long way, getting beat and all that bs.

I know a lot of people say they are just passionate about the program and they have a right to criticize players and coaches and blah blah blah. that is great you think you are a passionate fan now prove in 2 weeks.

It's funny, each counterpoint you addressed with blah, blah, blah is pretty much right on. Football is like any business. Put out a product that people want and they will buy it and enjoy it. Don't, and they won't. It's a fairly simple concept. And let's be honest, we aren't talking as if this is all new. We have been told to be a VFL we just need to be positive and patient, under every circumstance or we aren't. Well, I for one reject that premise, and I certainly don't blame anyone who left early in the cold while their team just continued to get embarrassed. I think the recruits are smarter than you give them credit. My guess? They witnessed just how early they can see the field next year.

No amount of yelling and screaming will bring them back from 32 points with 4 minutes left in the 4th. Might as well get ahead of the traffic

It's not about bringing them back. It's about showing the players and the recruits that Volnation will stand with them in good times and bad. It's easy to be super fan when you're winning. The real measure is how you react when you get your butt handed to you on a silver platter

I paid $120 for my 2 tickets. I have 3 small children that I'd rather go home to than watch a terrible team get pounded. I left at the the end of the 3rd quarter.

Negavols venting about CBJ coaching and what he has done thus far, with all the circumstances in year 1, convinces me that they are "closet Bama fans". But guess what... Saban's evil arse didn't come out of the gate winng NC's.

Michigan St. would have loved to see him bring some rings to East Lansing.

I wonder if Beilema is any more impressed with St Nick, now that he's coaching against him down in this part of the country?

I've been a Tennessee fan my entire life. I'm not happy with 5 and 6 win seasons. I hated Dooley and was very outspoken about his worthlessness. HOWEVER, this team is much less talented on offense than last year and has found ways to put points up most games. This defense was much worse last year and anyone can tell they are much improved. They are not great and sometimes not that good but they are tons better than last year. We are recruiting incredibly.

I hate getting beat and listening to these Bama fans in southern middle Tennessee. But, our time is coming. Butch is improving this team. Auburn had much more talent on the sideline than us when Malzhan took over. UGA, FL and USC will be worse next year. We will win the East in 2015 and the SEC in 2016...book it. Patience is a virtue... GBO!!

See Mattscantland's post, because he is so done too. Everyteam, almost every team has fans leaving, heck, Saban had to put out a message for His fans to stay in the stadium, and they are #1!! Fans are fickle and human.

is this Alabama? or Florida?

Everyone wants to say we have the best fan base all I am saying is prove it.

With Jackson, Malone, Lamin in the stands we as fans if we want to see our program get better and be competitive again then we should not let another teams fans take over Neyland.

Negavol you can call it what you wish. I happen to believe the glass is "half full" and "rising to the top." This team, with the depth and talent, is doing about what I expected. What I didn't expect was how good Auburn and Missouri would be this year. My hat is off to these two programs as they have exceeded expectations.

Some of you guys who think you know how to turn around programs in one year need to go into coaching! You guys have more football knowledge than Majors or Saban. What I really think it shows your football ignorance!

Why would closet Alabama fans be complaining about CBJ losing?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Simple, so called vol fans expect and cannot accept not dominating......so they start having the attitude that a Head Coach should sprinkle little VN administrator pixie dust on the team and coaching staff to make our team compete at the level that a top team......our biggest rival....Bubba.....hence Support positive things towards our Coaches and LIMITED talent right now....or come out of closet and be positive towards a winning team.

....Boy oh boy.I probably just vented too much...sorry
