We have the same schedule next year.
But we go to Gainsville and Tuscaloosa. With our troubles on the road and going to both of those is reason for concern.

There are a few here that are freaked out over it and have already chalked those 2 up as losses. Some as early as 1st quarter of the gater game this year.

Those are tough place to play no doubt. So let's say we lose to Bana on the road but beat Arkansas at home.....same record!

The only question then becomes the UF game on the road. That leaves 9-3 or 10-2. If you have been a fan long enough then you remember the SugarVols that had ZERO chance against Miami. Poi t being - that is why they play the game

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I just thought I'd explain it a little better than someone else's... "we're losing to Alabama and the gaters on the road next year and Georgia at home. Oklahoma will be better and Syracuse will better than NCST. I see 5 losses".

OU and Bama don't have QBs. OU is losing a lot on defense, both have lost a lot to the portal. Syracuse only beat NCST by 7 and lost badly to Pitt who just lost to Toledo. They also barely beat UNLV. If UT loses to Syracuse CJH has a big problem.

This guy gets it. Might go down as CJH best coaching job in regards to maximizing what he had.
Spot on. CJH made chicken salad out of chicken $hit this year. Our D punched well above their weight, but against the truly elite, the facade fell apart. I think there's another element not discussed. It's the fact that despite having talent, it is clear that they do not "click" together. All these star players are good in their own right but collectively they aren't working on offense. Our receiver corps, what should have been one of the best in the nation, couldn't get separation from anyone with a pulse. Our O line was giving out VIP passes to the backfield on almost every pass play. Sampson carried the load and masked most of this. I'm not seeing a clear team leader going into next year. Nico doesn't seem to be a leader. Don't know if that's a personality thing. Not everyone wants to stand in the front of the room and do the leadership thing.

Roster construction is part of the job too. We can praise CJH all we want for getting the most out of a limited roster (and lucking into a favorable schedule). However a staff into its 4th season shouldnt be dealing with a limited roster like this. Not if they are doing their job with talent eval, recruiting, and development. In year 4, not having a single starter on the Oline that you recruited out of high school is a huge red flag. Not having a quality backup at the slot behind Squirrel is a huge red flag. Not having a quality playmaker at wide receiver that you recruited out of high school is a huge red flag.

Favorable schedule? Playing Bama, UGA and a Florida team playing well in the end isnt “favorable schedule”. It’s not Tennessee’s problem that OU is a few years behind and NC State didn’t live up to the hype.

Why recruit HS OL in the portal era..have both. Playmakers at WR? Matthew’s and Staley at WR are his guys.

Seems you’re frustrated he took a 3-7 team over and makes the playoffs.

Negative much? You give credit to everyone else for being better but not us. Why? I know we lose a lot of but so does everyone else.

How do you know Oklahoma will be better? Georgia will have a first year starter at QB. Bama is coming off 3 losses with massive portal entries. Florida is a total unknown, they were supposed to be really terrible this year, maybe next year they are suppose to be better but suck.

You and Farmdog totally missed the sarcasm and the use of quotations in my last 2 posts. I even hinted at it by saying I wasnt disagreeing with you. I Really don't care to explain it further. 🤷

Its about to be year 5. We have to stop with this limitless gratitude to CJH for making us better than the complete dogsh_t we were 5 years ago and focus on where our program is headed NOW. Huepel has a high floor. I think we all realize this now. He's always going to go out and get between 7-10 wins. Thats certainly better than where we were 5 years ago. But at some point we have to decide, are we content with that?

Yes we made the playoffs in the year they expanded it to 12 and got completely embarrassed on national TV. Soon it'll be expanded to 14 teams and soon after that it'll be 16. The NCAA will continue to meet teams where THEY are so they can continue to feel good about themselves. But we both know the reality, which is there will always be 3 to 5 teams that are truly good enough to compete for nattys and everyone else is there to fill spots. Based on what I'm seeing out of CJH and his staff, we're never going to be more than a "fill in a spot" playoff team. It is what it is.

UF at the swamp hosting UT isn't a question in my mind.

Where did you expect them to be this year? Undefeated?

No. Undefeated is not something I'm EVER going to expect from this staff because they're not recruiting at an elite enough level or hitting the portal hard enough to stockpile the talent needed to do that.

I agree with the tweet. Spend the money on better players. Start spending at the level that Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon do to take the next step.

So the team is ahead of your expectations.

OSU was going to be tough to beat but w/o Sampson, Squirrel, and Thornton there was 0 chance. D-line regressed and did not play the same from the GA game on.

It is not where we were 5 years ago, it’s where we have been for 2 decades. In 4 years Heupel has had his teams be talked about for playoffs twice. One of those he made it in. It is hard to sustain a winning program when you are changing coaches every 5 years. No big time coach is going to walk into that kind of program. Therefore you get what we have had from Kiffin to Pruitt. There are a handful of coaches out there that are known to be a championship caliber coach. They are not coming here. Let’s ride with a coach that is in the ballpark at this point and sustain some relevancy at a minimum.

There is room for improvement. But going ahead and writing off ever competing for championships is just lunacy at this point. I mean we are still wiping dust off our uniforms from being in the basement.

LOL, if he watched a football team with a bad offensive line, no weapons, and a first year
starter make the playoffs then the logical conclusion is the coaching was subpar after four years of recruiting. The roster is literally determined by the coaches.
OSU has been on top talent wise for over a decade, we are in year 4 of rebuilding dumpster fire

Again, follow the recruiting/portal activity. It's all about players. We are not recruiting at a level that's going to put us in a position to win conference and national titles until we can at minimum start hitting the top 5 and ideally top 3.

Next year is going to be rough for the Vols, roster will be weaker especially Dline, safety and Oline. Receivers weren't great this season, next year will be light on talent again. 8-4 seems legit.
