Hey I'm rarely right, let me enjoy my "who is Wells" win. Lol
I don't get the shape shifting part.
Metron might have fit better, but the more casual Flash fan would know who RF is. For the shows future, they almost had to go RF. I'm sure next season will be more Grodd oriented, then start branching out into other lesser known villains.

Also, Metron is immortal....RF dies at some point. It would be a never ending thing with Metron.
<sigh> Must I explain everything to you? Of course the main villain had to be RF, but, up until a certain point, RF didn't have to be Harrison Wells. Up until that point, Wells could have been Metron. Wells didn't have to be the bad guy. Someone else could have been the RF.
As a character, Metron takes an interest in making sure certain events come to pass. The "crisis" mentioned by Gideon could have been such an event.
At one point, the story could have contained both Metron and the RF. They went a different way. I'm okay with that. I'm okay with Wells being the RF and I love the story they've told. The one thing that makes no sense to me is Eobard Thawne shapeshifting into/absorbing the real Harrison Wells. The "more casual Flash fan" would know RF never displayed that ability.
Weezy so mad it wasn't Metron.
Not mad at all. In fact, I like that they've made RF such a complicated character. It makes for good story. I just hope they explain the shape-shifting/absorption thing and don't leave it as an unexplained phenomenon. It's a trait I've never seen from the RF of comics, so I want to understand it.

Told you all that's why he didn't hurt Eddie. Lol

RF doesn't have a shape shifting ability, it's the device that RF used that the writers stole directly from Fringe. He shape shifted into Wells so he could continue Wells' work on the particle accelerator and to make it explode earlier.
