The Florida Postgame Report

I was assured by none other than GatorsGators that Wilbekin was an outstanding perimeter defender and is a better defender than Yeguete who is out with an injury. I stated that Yeguete being out is tough for Fla because he does all the dirty work that doesn't necessarily go noticed by the common fan.

If Wilbekin was on McRae, well, then I'm just LMFAO.

Not tall enough to be a hard defender on Jordan, plus Jordan got a few open looks. Not to mention McCrae has to be one of the hottest players in the conference.

Florida's Billy Donovan said Tennessee might have the SEC's best point guard (Golden), wing (McRae) and big man (Stokes).

1. YES!!!! The biggest win in the Cuonzo Martin Era. A gutsy, tough effort from the Vols in a national prime time game. The signature win that Tennessee needed.

2. The defense. That was the key. They held a top ten offensive team in the country to 42% shooting and 23.5% from 3. They were aggressive on their ball screen defense and nothing came easy from Florida. They got after every jump shot.

3. Jarnell Stokes might not have been huge offensively, but his defense was incredible. His paint coverage is seriously underrated. He hedge hard all night and did a great job getting back to protecting the rim. He dominated the boards with 14 tonight. Just a wonderful performance.

4. Nine turnovers. ONLY NINE. Against a really good Florida defense. That's show maturation. UT was crisp with their passes. When Florida pressed, it didn't matter.

5. The Bernard King Player of the Game: Jordan McRae cooled off in the second half, but who cares? How about 17 points in the first half? Not only did he score 27 and have his way, he had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. It was his most complete game as a Vol. He also played great D on Kenny Boyton and Erik Murphy. Guys, Jordan McRae is a monster.

6. The defense on Erik Murphy shows Cuonzo's great defensive teaching ability. They did the same thing to Kyle Wiltjer. They fronted him and took him out of rhythm. They switched almost all ball screens. And they got out and contested every jump shot. He had no shot. Great team effort on defense too. It wasn't going to be one guy, and it wasn't.

7. The big number for today? +11. UT outrebounded Florida by 11 even though both teams shot 42%. That was the key. Tennessee had 13 offensive rebounds compared to 7 for Florida. There's the game.

8. Yemi Makanjoula gave UT great minutes in the first half. Florida was in the lead and then Jarnell picked up his second foul. What happened? He grabbed five rebounds, an assist, and played great defense that got UT going. Huge pickup from him.

9. Only complaint? Free throws. 11-19 won't cut it.

10. But who cares? UT won a huge game. The biggest win since 2010 against Ohio State in the Sweet Sixteen. UT is now a legitimate team for a chance at the NCAA tourney. They have that signature win they needed. Florida looked like a beat down boxer tonight. UT was just too physical. A road game Saturday against Georgia. It's time for payback. Boys and girls, tonight we are having fried gator. And it tastes gooooood.

Go Vols!!!!! :hi:

yes! Yes! YES!! I am so pumped for our team right now! The way they are playing right now is incredible. I had kind of lost faith earlier in the season, but the confidence of the team and the maturity that the team has been playing with is really something to watch. Cuonzo really has them playing at the highest level. Jordan McCrae has had an amazing year. On ESPN they were talking him up and boy, it was well deserved. I'm proud of the effort I have seen since the UK game!! I think we have a decent shot of making the tournament now! Go Vols!!

The best thing about tonight..... We beat a top 10 team and I don't think we played all that great. We were pretty sluggish on O and stokes got in foul trouble, yet we still won. Great sign.

Also, Kenny hall got embarrassed a few times inside on D.

Completely underrated post.

One of the first things I thought after the final buzzer was, "Damn, we just beat a top 10 team and we really didn't even play that well."

Shows how this team has come together and matured. We are a force right now.

I cannot properly express how pumped I am right now. Somehow lucked into incredible seats right behind the press rows (pretty much directly behind John Adams). These kids are playing HARD for Cuonzo Martin. Are we the most talented team? No. But they've been giving their all for Tennessee, and they certainly did tonight. Got a little help from the bench, too (Chievous and Lopez scored, Hall had a dunk and a tough jumper but was otherwise terrible, McBee, who's not really a bench player at this point, actually took it to the rack and made a lay-up, Yemi played some great D and kept our momentum going when Stokes had to sit with the 2 fouls.) Otherwise, of course, it was the Jordan McRae show, with Stokes as best supporting actor for glass cleaning.

Also, I've been to many games at TBA, and that was as loud and raucous as I've ever seen it. The students represented. Good to see. I was a bit disappointed in the LSU turnout after the Kentucky beatdown. Winning definitely breeds enthusiasm. If we beat Georgia and Auburn, the Missouri game could essentially be a play-in game for the Dance, and I expect it to be out of control.
