The Foreign Trade Thread

Don't think so. They seem to not have much of a clue what to do besides ask for rebates.
Its probably going to be a **** show for a month or so, but I am pretty confident that China comes back to the table and we get a deal that we want. High tariffs are bad for everyone, but they are very effective when you are wanting to push a line.

What evidence do you have that this is true? You're just saying whatever is convenient.

I think a lot of people will look to permanently move their factories to avoid any further bs down the line, regardless.

So no basis for your comment?
My comment that China stands to lose more than the US in this? When the US stops buying all those laptops, what do you think that's going to do to China? The S&P is only down 4% for the old historical high while the Shanghai Comp is about down 11% for the old historical high with this tariff news.

It's a lot more complicated than "China loses laptop sales".

The party who is hurt more is the party that takes a bigger hit to total social welfare. Social welfare is a measurement of benefit to both buyers and sellers, so when laptops are not sold here, both parties are hurt. When soybeans are not sold there, both parties are hurt. It's way too complicated for anybody to give an honest answer about who is hurt more.

People/Companies moving money around in the market, exactly as they should be. The chicken little characterization is misplaced. If they weren't planning for the tariff repercussions, it would be ignorant.

Truth is, Americans will pay the extra 25%. Chinese will probably not, as they've already proven with soybeans... and now come the grains.

And, yet again, Trump is a lying idiot.

I'm not talking about major players moving their money......I'm talking about the guy who has vested 500 bucks in penny stocks acting like the drop is the end of the world.

What did he lie about this time?

Billions of dollars coming into our coffers, as a result of the tariffs?

China pays the tariffs?

I don't follow Trump 24/7, so not sure what his actual words were. The US has brought in a lot of revenue from tariffs, not sure the amount. Would be interested to see how much we have brought in revenue due to tariffs.

Nevermind, I found it.

Yeah, it doesn't work that way
