That's pretty solid playing. Could only imagine putting on those greens if they had any pace

They're always quick. From above the hole, some seem damn near unplayable. There was never an inside the hole or edge putt from outside of about 8 feet. All speed out there.

Great golf course, but weather blows. Saturday's 15-25 knot wind, which added substantilly to my score, felt like a blast furnace.

It was pretty stupid IMO. Yes, they were playing slow, but you'd think the rules guy would use a little common sense and realize that it doesn't really matter if the final group is a little out of position.
I agree, in general, but Harrington is one of the main culprits out there. I think he should start every round on the clock.

That's some good playin' regardless on that course from the tips.

could have been much worse for certain, but it's not just an abysmally long course. The premium is much more on accuracy than it is pop. Rough isn't overly severe right now, so it's very playable. The trees guard the course more than anything else. Doglegs galore.

I'm not faulting Tiger for bringing hordes to the game. I'm faulting him for playing slowly, which he does.

that's fine, and i agree.

but i'm not attributing it to having to wait 15 minutes on every tee box on any random weekend at the local public course.

i remember reading somewhere there's courses in Great Britain that will escort you off course for slow play. that's the way to fix the problem. i've rarely heard of that around here, and certainly not just for slow play.

I like the idea. My personal crusade has been just buzzing the tower.

The last player penalized a shot for slow play on the PGA Tour was Dillard Pruitt at the 1982 Byron Nelson Classic.

Putting someone on the clock on a PGA tournament is meaningless until the above sentence, from the linked article, is no longer true. The warning is haphazardly enforced, the penalty is never enforced at all. It carries about the same weight as the "sideline warning" in football, which is to say none at all.

I didn't see Paddy blow up, but I seriously doubt it was because of his fear of being the first player penalized by that rule in almost three decades.

his second shot from the rough was clearly rushed. Tiger also played out of turn to keep the ball moving. they were definitely thinking about it.

neither player had a drive that worth writing home about. i have to imagine there's enough things going through their heads at that time. i'd also think that somebody telling you to hurry up when you've found your rhythm can be distracting.

But continuing to ingrain Paddy's absurdly slow play has to stop. PGA douchebags like Paddy and Crane are ruining the game away from the tour.

I was fortunate enough to play Pebble a few times and, after my first go 'round, slow play ruined the place for me. There is no excuse whatsoever for 6 hour rounds.

I agree, slow play kills me.

I believe that the rules official in question is a european tour guy, maybe he's had enough of paddys slow play?

Marshalls are more aggressive on courses down here I believe. I was paired with some hackers at the FSU course in Tallahassee and a marshal asked them to get a rain check and come back on a slower day in the 11th fairway. I was a regular and knew the guy so he knew it wasn't me. I wasn't surprised he said something, but was surprised that he asked them to leave. Boynton Links here in south florida is another course that is infamous for pushy marshals. More and more courses in the area push the pace of play as a selling point. Others are more than happy to accommodate the 6 hour wonder.

I hate playin after 8 on weekends due to the slow play. Nothing more frustrating than watching a guy read a put from 4 angles. I do a quick plumb bob and hit it. Maybe if I have an occasional eagle I'll spen more time.

OK...you hit a half inch BEHIND the ball and an 8 iron goes 115 yrds instead of 155 yrds...and THAT is close to a perfect shot....... NO WAY!

I love Pelz....for putting...not the full swing!

We shouldn't even be continuing this convo, bpv cured he shanks the next day!

I've given up complaining about slow play. I figure that I'd rather be on a golf course than most places anyway.

Those that complain about slow play in tournaments....don't have a handle on THEIR game. Weekend play ...I understand, but tournament play is different. Players need to worry about their own game, not the game of the others.

Point was ..its not close to a good shot!

I don't know bpv...and did not know if he "cured" the shanks.
didn't have the shanks that needed to be cured. I did quasi shank two balls that day from the catbird seat and was frustrated.

I agree with you that it isn't remotely close to a good shot. I'd much prefer the toe and the ugly quick hook I get from it. That said, guess it depends on where the trouble lies.

EVERYONE has shanked a shot! Hell......Angel Cabrera had one
at the Masters and WON! So did Nicklaus in the 60's on #12 and won. It happens to all of us. Just glad you have gotten over them.

Funny story......At the 2002 TN Section Championship, I shanked about 25 in a row on the range before the first round. I was scared Shi*less on the first hole with a 70 yrd LW for my 3rd shot. I set the ball Waaay out on the toe and prayed! Ball finished 2 feet from the hole. I played that way for the next 3 days and shot 69-71-70
and got beat by 1 shot after 3 putting the 54th hole.

Band-aids work great for a while!!

The worst is when you start shanking pitch shots. Full swing shanks are tough to deal with, but there's nothing quite as demoralizing as not being able to hit a green from 20 yards away.

^^^^^^^
NEVER let your hands get closer to the ball than they are at the address position. You will NEVER shank a ball again!

PROMISE!!!!!!!!!

not a fan of band aids, as they are a constant reminder of the base problem.

As I said, went out with a buddy and he told me my shoulders were getting awfully closed at setup. Opened them back up a hair and the grip felt right again and quit having to adjust to hit solid shots.
