I played Gaylord Springs and Fairvue in Nashville this weekend...

The Gaylord course was pretty nice -- lots of moguls, not a lot of level lies, and pretty tight. The greens were less than impressive. That course is steamy in the heat -- right in the riverbed. The staff was fantastic and the clubhouse is a good setup for meetings.

Fairvue is a private course in Hendersonville. I really enjoyed it -- greens were great, fairly open, nice-lie Zoysia (sp?) fairways. It's in a struggling, newer, high-end neighborhood, but if you can get on, it's a great play.

Fairvue is a solid track. Owner intended to build another 18, but has put that in hold.

I've played the Springs once (about three years ago), and the greens were better shape than you described. However, I was very frustrated with the US open rough. If you didn't hit the fairways it was a very painful experience.

just read where both Tiger and Paddy were put on the clock right before 16 yesterday. absolutely ridiculous. god forbid they hold up the grounds crew. how can you be holding play up when nobody is behind you?

Isn't tiger known as a slow player? And I agree with you.

Completely agree. You have a marquee match-up in the final group on Sunday. Frankly I don't care if my local news is delayed.

must have got in Paddy's head for him to blow up on 16, like he did

You did, of course, tee it up again and play a bank shot off the rocks into that short par 3 over water on the back, right? I don't see how anybody could resist that temptation.

I played it about a month ago, and it was in really good shape, greens included. It is a shame to hear they have deteriorated.

But continuing to ingrain Paddy's absurdly slow play has to stop. PGA douchebags like Paddy and Crane are ruining the game away from the tour.

I was fortunate enough to play Pebble a few times and, after my first go 'round, slow play ruined the place for me. There is no excuse whatsoever for 6 hour rounds.

the people ruining the game away from the tour are the marshals who don't have the cajones to tell Joe Foursome to hurry up and get his ass out of the way.

I'll grant you that, but the "read a meaningless putt from every angle and go through your 4 minute routine on every putt" crowd exists because of what they see on television from the big boys.

I'd rather play 72 holes of putt putt and take in pizza and a movie than play a 6 hour round of golf....anywhere.

me too. I almost didn't enjoy my Saturday round this weekend because it took us 5.5 hours.

Late Sunday afternoon, we breezed around in about 3.5 hours and it was bliss. Hot, sweaty bliss, but bliss nonetheless.

Sounds like you are dialing in again BPV. Sad that our games are moving in opposite directions.

Let me know if you will be in Knox at all this fall. Perhaps we can make a tee time. I will just require a little patience. Of course, I play faster when my game is sucking wind.

I've actually spent quite a bit of time chipping and putting this year. It's amazing how much more I want to play when I can get something out of a round.

i agree it's absurd to spend 6 hours on the course. that's not fun for anybody.

but to blame it on tour players is kinda silly. to me, that's like saying that since Tiger joined the tour, there's been an influx of weekend hacks; so it must be Tiger's fault they don't know the rules.

I'm not faulting Tiger for bringing hordes to the game. I'm faulting him for playing slowly, which he does.

More like 1/2 an inch, and I trust Dave Pelz more than I trust you.

OK...you hit a half inch BEHIND the ball and an 8 iron goes 115 yrds instead of 155 yrds...and THAT is close to a perfect shot....... NO WAY!

I love Pelz....for putting...not the full swing!
