The Golf Thread

I shot a for real deal totally legit 59 once. Of all places on a Pete Dye course, The Ocean Course at Kiawah island. And we played from the tips. After I shot the 59 I still had enough courage to play the back 9. I shot a 51 on the back. My wife framed that scorecard for me.

Are you a masochist?

Paul Goydos dropped a nice little 59 today in the first round of the John Deere Classic.

Lift, clean and place was in effect today (or as Dan Jenkins would say, lift, clean and cheat.) Not to take anything away from Goydos, who is always a threat if the track isn't too long, but Steve Stricker shot 60, there were 4 64's, 4 65's and 7 66's. Not exactly a grueling test for the pros today.

If memory serves, Goydos' score wasn't the first 59 of the 4 in PGA history to be shot under lift, clean, and place.

Was it in easier circumstances? Sure.

A 59 is still a 59 though.

I'd sure like to be happy for the guy. A 59 in tourney play is quite the trophy. But I'm more happy not having a 59 in tourney play and not being Paul Goydos.

that 7.5 a flat hitting 975D with a EI-70 TS in it?

Have that club. Probably my favorite driver ever.

As an aside, I just got the R9 SuperDeep TP with Aldila RIP in it. First club I've loved since my 510 TP, seriously. I've tried a bunch of drivers and stuck with that 510 almost religiously. I think this is the first one they got right like that one.

at least the R9, doesn't have that skewed looking triangle head...

the new clubs have basically eliminated the duck.
The funny thing is that they hit it so straight that now to get one to go hard left you have to swing "bad", cross the line and almost hit a pull hook. The rope hook off the tee is next to impossible.

I'm good with it. If I never again unload a roper, it's too damn soon.

This new one is a damn good golf club with much better shape.

Yeah . . . I was sort of daydreaming. I haven't hit an intentional swinging hook since about 1995. Somewhere in there I had an epiphany about drastic ball flights with a Driver.

When I go bad, it's because of a hook. Start dropping it inside and slinging it shut.

Playing in the Jack and Jill with her father this morning, my wife made an ace on our home club's 120 yard second hole. It is her second hole in one.

yea, those monthly bills are rough..

never really think about how many you've had or what's the damage till it comes in the mail

Playing in the morning. Buddy gave me a sleeve of Srixon Z Star x to play with. Claims after 3 holes I'll be hooked. (doubt it. I'm not good enough for the ball I play to make that much of a difference) I've been playing with Bridgestone B330. I like it a lot, great distance and still killer spin. (I bought 10 dozen of them on ebay)

Any you guys played a Srixon ball before?

10 dozen should last awhile....
Haven't hit a Srixon, in a few years
I usually play the Pro V1x

I'm a huge fan of the ProV1x's. I just can't afford to keep buying them.

On a side note, I have finally found a little balance in my swing and am having some consistency. Hallelujah

Good ball. These days, everyone's premium ball is extremely good. Differences are minimal.

I now play the TM Penta, which has proven to be a great ball, but all of them are essentially the same.
How's that one play from 50 yards in. That's really the only place where I think there's an appreciable difference in the "premium" balls. You can get some of them to grab better than others on the partial wedges and pitches.
