The Golf Thread

Nothing based on science, but he played junior college golf on the 70s and could pop it 300 on occasion, with persimmons.

He just thinks if drivers are really such better, something has to be holding distances level.

If we had to be as precise with our ballstriking as they were with the persimmon drivers, we'd all be hitting 300 for sure.

Not quite.

Exaggerating on the distance of course, but people don't hit the ball flush and expect the club to perform as advertised and its not going to happen. It's almost impossible to fit some people to clubs due to how bad their swings are.

My dad firmly believes that as driver technology has progressed, ball technology has regressed.

Not really. The primary factor is weight. The ball's weight has remained constant so the technology has to be focused on spin and drag.
Also, the ball's diameter has remained constant. Not as significant as weight but more significant than spin or drag.

But core materials softening dramatically and the ability to make layers that reduce spin from flat clubs but increase from wedges has made a gigantic difference.

I've got a set of Cleveland Classics persimmons, you can take all the cuts you want from it, and see how many 300 yards drives are left in them

yeah, isn't that basically their stock shaft?

i liked the white club head too.

I like the white, but isn't worth some change to me, unless the stick is better. I like the heck out of mine right now.

i don't like the whole being able to fiddle around with it deal. i already have too many things to think about without having to wonder if it's setup right.

Mine has been adjusted exactly once.

I've only owned one adjustable club (r7 superquad). Took me 5 minutes to tune it in. Stayed that way for 2 years.
