The Golf Thread

It's a quality course, I like the back 9 a little better than the front.

I'm a fan. I hope that the new ownership is able (or has the funds) to restore the course to its former glory. Ten years ago, I would have put it up against any course in East Tennessee. I'm told there are drainage/irrigation issues on that particular piece of property that prevent them from getting the greens up to tournament-type speed, which is one legit knock on the course, but from a design standpoint, it's aces.

I played Falcon's Fire in the Disney area today. 9 strokes better on the back pretty much sums it up.

I'm a river islands fan as well, but haven't played there in about 2 years. Just checked their website and their rate is $55 in the AM and $45 PM no matter the day. I used to pay $25 as a student! Wth, won't be going there any time soon.

Please don't complain about rates that low. That's the cost of a low-end course out here.

The original owners knew what they were doing. Being a golf family helped tremendously. I haven't played there since 1998 when it was in excellent condition

headed out to the course for the first time this year and shot a +18 on the front 9. funnily enough, it was one of my better days.

Most of us grip too tight. Its harder to turn the hands over if too tight.

I have a very weak grip, but still struggle with turning through. Every once in a while I get the shanks because of poor rotation, and present the hosel to the ball. I blame it on the natural draw swing (trying to hold back the face to keep from hooking).

No disrespect, but I hope noone was behind you.
Eh, most guys are fine as long as they don't stalk putts like the crap on TV. Most would also be better off following their gut and just stepping up to pull the trigger. Would free many up, more putts would be made and play would be faster.

I don't care how poorly one plays, just do it quickly and don't hunt lost balls like you're posting a clubhouse rabbit.

unless it's for birdie or par I don't check it out very hard (even then it's brief). Play ready golf if your group is not very good and no one will really notice

There we go. This sums it up nicely.

Your par or birdie putt in a regular round of golf won't make or break the rest of your life.

actually had the course all to ourselves today minus a few people that showed up right at the end. if i played more i could get better. i've been playing golf for the past 10 years or so, but never go out to the range enough to improve that much. on a good day i can position myself in front of the green and pin somewhat consistently, but my short game is atrocious.......especially my wedge play and chipping.

Those are the best days. If you don't play much, you are probably breaking your wrists on your chips, which makes it easier to skull it or chunk it. More than likely picking your head up too. Just guessing.

Tell you what's weird. I'm 40 and have had a dozen surgeries on my knees, ankle, hands, etc. I only play once or twice a month now, whereas I played twice a week for many years. I am better than I ever have been. Maybe I don't expect much? Shot a 78 at Hermitage last week and consistently stay @ 80, though I don't play the tips if it's over 7k yds. I wish I knew the answer, but I thinks it's mostly that I can't swing as hard as I used to, but I am on plane with a shorter swing and my head stays back.

If I pay $60 & as long as I'm not holding anybody up I might do more than glance at a putt. I'm no scratch golfer but on occasion I break 80 & I strive to get better. Every green where I play is not flat. If I play with a guy that hacks it up & spends all day looking for balls I'll tell him to hurry the hell up or he'll get the hint when I'm about to tee off on the next hole.

I am having huge issues getting off of the tee, and it's essentially a huge mental/confidence issue. I'll stripe my driver in the range and then either snap hook or block my driver about a mile to the right.

I spent the better part of two seasons doing that crap. I'm finally at the point now to where I'm not trembling on the tee box.

It makes me almost not want to play, and ruins my scores obviously.

The only thing that saves me is if it's an open course. A lot of courses out here are very narrow, so I end up shooting mid to high 8Os cuz my driver is so bad.
